Last Film You Watched

Mission: Impossible (1996)

Never watched it before; wish I hadn't had bothered now. Two OK-ish set piece moments, semi-decent opening, absolutely nothing else, and Tom Cruise's constant inane grin in this grated on my nerves.

Emmanuelle Beart, who I'd never heard of before, is a looker in this though. Reminds me of Emilia Clarke.

She first came to prominence in the mid 80’s with two films she did with Gerard Depardieu - Manon des Source and Jean de Florrette ( both very watchable )

She was a natural stunner, who was the rarity in the showbiz world, in that she didn’t starve herself to look thin, or go anywhere near cosmetic enhancement, this was despite being the face of a couple of fashion houses for a while.

All in all a bit of a hippy.

Googled her now.. I reckon that cosmetic avoidance is long gone.. its 25 years later.. so fair play.. but back then...wowzers ..

I remember picking up Red Storm Rising and I don’t think I put it down until I finished the book.

Gripping
That was my Red Storm Rising experience as well. I played a lot of RPGs and boardgames back in the day and a good friend of mine, who was deep into the boardgame Harpoon, kept raving about Clancy and this book, so I decided to give it a go. I never looked back. Such a good book!

I found the Norwegian submarine captain, who was constantly buzzed, to be a fairly accurate portrayal. It takes a couple of pints for most Norwegians to stabilize and become social (but why stop at two?)?

That would have been Captain Bjorn Johannsen if I’m not mistaken.
