Last Film You Watched

Watched The Northman last night.

Definitely lives up to the hype.
I really enjoyed Robert Eggers previous movies (The VVitch and The Lighthouse) and this shows what he can achieve with a Hollywood budget.

Visually it's spectacular, the sets, costumes, locations and framing for every shot are on point.

The Viking raid scene in particular was incredible.

I've heard some people refer to it as "this generations 'Gladiator' "
Not for me tbh. Whilst this is an excellent film and I highly recommend people go and see it, it's not quite on the same level as Gladiator for me as I felt the pacing was a bit off the mark in parts.

Other than that though, it's great.

Nah, the way he “ adopts “ the drug lords daughter ( brilliant performance by her ) just doesn’t fit in with his character ( imo )

They’re both magnificent films, but the first one edges it for me.

I’ve read that they’re doing another, which is very good news.

I must’ve watched the first one over a dozen times and I still find new stuff every time I watch it.

Hes a family man...

The point of the second one :

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It was always going to be a trilogy

I was tempted to turn it off several times...but its strangely addictive.

Some really weird choices he made which were far more complicated than what he had to do.

Some obvious parts as well...and the 'twist' near the end seemed fairly clearly mapped.

I appreciate that, but in the first he guns down the drug lords kids without even batting an eyelid.

His relationship with her just didn`t ring true ( imo )

He did that because it was in front of the man who had dropped his in acid.

He wanted to take everything away from him before the final moment.

In 2 he spends time with the little creature and must have reminded him of his daughter.

Watched Dr. Strange last week. Side note: I've not been to the cinema much in the last 3 years, so going to 3 movies in a week and a bit is new to me lol

As a Marvel movie tying in a lot of other universes and whatever it hyped itself up to be - 6/10. It didn't achieve anything and it was average, with good visuals and not much else; obvious story at times, which is shocking.

As a separate Doctor Strange movie - 8.5/10, more or less with the same reasons/criticisms. It unveils Strange as the next big thing in the MCU, which is what he should be, without giving too much away (for now, except the post-credit scene).

Shame it was so fan-hyped and they basically hinted that you need to watch all the other stuff before you see this, when in reality you needed to know what happened at the very end of Wandavision, and even without that it was still pretty well explained.

Also the 2nd post-credit scene was the most annoyed I've been for waiting for 5 min in my life ffs.

See to me, watching Wandavision is a must for the new DS film. It doesn't explain whatsoever how Wanda went from Endgame to this.

Realistically you don't need to know what happened in Westview entirely to dot it together. It's good for completing her story and for better understanding, but it's not *necessary* if that makes sense? Friend saw it without watching Wandavision and liked it still, realised what was happening pretty quickly. Not saying everyone's like that obviously, but still...
