The plot needs to be absolute insanity. It's the year 2035 and the Earth is running out of water. A team of scientists make an incredible discovery: There is an entire planet's worth of ocean beneath the surface of Saturn. Seizing on this chance at salvation, they build a giant vessel/container to mine Saturn's water and return it to Earth to fill the ocean beds. This vessel, which they call "The Ark" is captained by the only man crazy enough to undertake such a mission: Jake "Cutter" McGraw (Gerard Butler), nicknamed because of his propensity for uppercutting executives and stuffed suit politicians when they get in his way.
He has a notoriously short fuse and a streak of alcoholism, both of which contributed to the acrimonious divorce of him and the mother of his genius savant child. On board this mission too is Hersh Grabsmeier (Nic Cage), a shameless, greasy haired capitalist who is there to make sure the project doesn't run over budget and that the shareholders are kept happy (this part of the plot doesn't make any sense, and no attempt will be made to clarify it).
As they return to the earth with the ocean, Grabsmeier makes his play, hacking the systems on board and taking control of the vessel. His plan: to hold the earth to ransom and sell water at skyhigh prices to nations around the world and become filthy rich. McGraw has to take back control of the ship and pilot it back to earth, or all life will die out in exactly ...72 Hours. With the help of his genius savant daughter who snuck aboard the ark, can McGraw and his crew save the world from climate change and unscrupulous capitalism? The only way to find out is to watch OCEANFALL, coming to a cinema near you this summer
