My all-time favourite too, alongside 2001.
full of mega goosepimp moments...but the one that always gets me a little emotional is after Arthur sips from the Grail, and his brother goes
GUARDS! KNIGHTS! SQUIRES! Prepare for Battle!
Cue that epic Orff music, which despite being overused in the decades since still has unbelievable power in Excalibur.
As an aside, for years i thought the lyrics of that music had "THE KING WILL COME!", which really fit! But at some point got the entire Carmina Burana on CD, all the lyrics are in Latin
'The King Will Come' is actually
Hac in Hora ("at this hour"). The text is from the 13th-century (hence Latin) and is a helpless ode to how we can't control our fate & fortune (hence, O Fortuna).
The rest of Carmina Burana is really good stuff. Sounds almost comedic at times, like the choir are hedonists and just larking about. None of the other pieces ever match the dramatic peak of O Fortuna.
