Last Film You Watched

good call...and cult rare finds like that sometimes fetch a bit online. The used-market for media like DVD's, Blurays and also music CD's/Vinyl is really active. And the less mainstream, the more demand.

not sure if you could call it a counter-movement to streaming, but there does seem to be a lot of people still preferring to own their own films & music via physical media.
The vast majority look like they've been licensed and relicensed numerous times for Poundland style retailers or the 4 films on 2 disc compilations so there's not a great deal of monetary value. The odd one turns up here and there but even then it's a gamble on what condition it's gonna be in coming from the shelf of a charity shop which has a big say on resale value. One day I'll drop on that trove of Roger Corman era Filipino exploitation movies!

Definitely like to keep a physical collection though to complement the streaming services which as good as they are are still always subject to the whims of licensing, remasters, cuts and changing values. Plus there's the nerdy appeal of a collection.

Either way the ease of access and variety offered with streaming, the steep drop in value of physical media outside of 4k discs and the fact that even pretty ordinary home TV's are light years ahead of what was available 20 years ago is a bit of a golden age for film fans.

good post and agreed

i'm due re-sorting our dvd shelves as our little lad is now 3 and somehow often finds the horror films..."what's this one, daddy? can we put it on?"

earlier today he found Plague Dogs, a PG-cartoon from the makers of Watership Down...i don't think he's ready for it lol

100%

He's absolute toilet. Deserves every crap role offered.

Hey, it pays the bills.
I've nothing against him as an actor though - perfectly good at what he does but his dumb action flicks aren't even that much fun or stupid enough. They're just a bit nuts and bolts dull.

300 is probably the exception. That's an interestingly done, hugely stupid and often fun pile of absolute shallow nonsense.

Agree, he's perfect for the roles he's given.

Director "Just be yourself"

Aaaaaaaaaannnd.... Action!

I watched Less Than Zero for the first time since way back in the day. Couldn't remember much about it, other than it starred Robert Downey Jr. and had The Bangles' cover of Hazy Shade of Winter over the opening credits. It was fairly/surprisingly watchable after all these years, and nowhere near as dated as I though it would be. But it reminded me how Ellis' books are basically unfilmable; while this, The Rules of Attraction and American Psycho* all kind of work in themselves, they're pretty hopeless in terms of how they adapt the novels.

* many very good reasons why this one is largely unfilmable, obvs.

Out of nowhere! 8 netball hoops out of 10!
Good film. Better than I expected
