Nolte looks like Stallone there. Anyhoo, "Thunderbolt & Lightfoot" next or "In Bruges"?

Just watched Don't Go In The House, 70s film, one of the old banned Video Nasties.
Was actually decent, about a fella who liked killing people with a flame thrower, one aspect reminded me of Psycho with a dominate mother, was a bit warped but decent for what it was and not to extreme

Star Trek: The Motion Picture. First time watching since maybe about a decade ago.

a rare 10/10. Proper science-fiction. Arguably as good as Kubrick's 2001 (which is the greatest film of all time). Has a more coherent story too. Watched the original theatrical cut, then the next day the Director's Cut. Prefer the original by a whisker, both are highly-recommended.

I'm utterly bemused by the low opinion many folk (including Trekkies) have of this. By the same token, i don't get why Wrath of Khan is everyone's favourite. It's boring and is full of nonsense plotting. Tho' incredible final scene, so granted a 6/10. The original episode that it's a sequel to - Space Seed - is superior, you get a much better sense of Khan's magnetic charisma.

Also did Search For Spock, which flows better than TWoK, tho' isn't anything spectacular. 7/10. And Voyage Home, which is very fun but lightweight romp. 8/10.

V & VI next...

Malignant

James Wan is great at building tension throughout the movie, and the violence looks really good. The story/characters just didn't do much for me, and the ending was kinda crap. 6/10

Watched 2 excellent movies today:
Alls quiet on the western front - brilliant. Not sure if I was ever meant to be sympathetic to the leads but never was… the waste of human life was never more stark..

Joker.. eventually got to it.. probably the best performance in years… I know there is a fair amount one can unpack but purely brilliant just for his acting chops.

Yep, few come close to Phoenix these days, he's absolutely briliant.

Maybe Frances McDormand, Jessica Chastain and the up-and-coming Florence Pugh.

Was herself's pick for a Saturday night fillum and from the description/trailer I was expecting it to be a crap teen Candyman rip off kinda thang. Its actually a rather good, slow burn, half police procedural/half cosmic horror affair, really well made and very well acted.
It has echoes of stuff like Angel Heart, Kill List, The Void, and it sort of plays out as you think it will, but wrong foots you at the same time and nicely tinkers with common genre tropes. From an intriguing, quite shocking and seemingly disconnected opening to its satisfying ending its a compelling tale and feels shorter than its 2 hours 20.

Recommended. Disney +.
