Last Film You Watched

Finally got around to watching Banshees of Inisherin. A lot of Martin McDonagh's films leave me cold for some reason, but I always end up watching them because of my missus. I have to say, this was easily the best of his films I have seen, thanks to Farrell, Gleeson, Condon and Keoghan. A simple story well told on a lovely Atlantic backdrop. 5 fingers out of 5

Probs my fave too. I never really got the appeal of In Bruges

Love the original. The second was trash. If there's more than that they belong in the bin!

There's a streaming service that does only (mainly), horror movies. Can't remember the name (single word, one syllable I think). Dunno how good their collection is tho.

Saw Avatar 2 the other day. Never saw the original, and went in with low expectations, but got to say I actually really enjoyed it. It is a bit long, but I didn't mind that so much as I enjoyed all the stuff that could most easily have been cut.

Also saw Shin Ultraman. Crazy japanese scifi action film. Also a bit longer that it needed to be, but good fun if you're into that kind of thing/kaiju films.

You mean Shudder, I think? Not available in my country sadly. I heard they're trying to expand to Europe, would be amazing. My impression is they've got a really good collection (both older stuff and exclusive movies made for the platform). I know my 2nd favorite film of 2022, Deadstream, was originally a Shudder exclusive!

Yeah that sounds like the one.

I must be a film dunce tho, wasn't that keen on Banshees. Maybe needs another viewing, feel like I much preferred Bruges, just found this a little underwhelming and "sparse". I don't need films to be fast and action packed all the time, but this felt a little too slow and draggy, not enough of the dark humour that was present in places.

I found it very funny at times. I felt a fair bit of the humour and jokes might have only really landed with Irish people

The joke count in it, the little bits that means nothing, just fabulous. For instance the showdown in the clock tower is held when it is closed because of an ordeal one of the americans has. It's a tiny part, but it overlaps the stupidity it laid down earlier. Everyone in it keeps a straight face as well. superb.

I liked it. But did feel a little tiny bit underwhelmed at the ending. Could've been my own fault though as I went in after reading the rave reviews and was expecting to be blown away.

What I did find was that I laughed more during that film than i've done any proper 'comedy' in the last 10 years or so.

Yeah fair enough. As @LocalNative kind of mentioned, I don't really like comedy films (which I do class that as). It's too long to try and be funny

I'd give In Bruges another go mate if you haven't seen it in a while - I think it's a really great film and has many of the same themes. It's actually quite sad!

It took me two viewings of Seven Psychopaths to begin to like it and after a third watch years later I loved it.

Love Seven Psychopaths (and In Bruges), Sam Rockwell, as usual, plays his part perfectly.

The dialogue in Martin McDonagh's movies is always fantastic.
