I like any 70's dystopia with the nihilistic vibe. Soylent Green has an overwhelming feel of end times.... plus the opening montage is just geniusSoylent Green
One of those films I never got round to watching because you already know the twist. Very good but not a great film.
Heston's a bit too old to play a man young enough to be so totally ignorant of the world as it was. The sets are clearly on some long neglected sound-stage and the clear budget issues mean the dystopian, barren and over-populated NYC never really comes across convincingly. Why are people sleeping on stairs when there's loads of space within shuffling distance?
It's a good film though despite it's issues. Edward G Robinson is worth watching and the 'Going Home' scene is brilliantly done as well as are the audio manipulations to cover the twist.
If you don't mind subtitles, give 'Come and See' a go...Finally watched All Quiet on the Western Front. Wow. Its films like this that challenge you and make you feel like you've experienced (rather than endured) something that made me fall in love with film. The cinematography was breath-taking, writing, acting, editing, and sound design all excellent.
As an message on the futility of lives placed in the hands of generals with no intention of getting dirt under their nails, it's right up there with Paths of Glory for me.
Hope it sweeps the board.

Stars at Noon, starring the gorgeous Margaret Qualley and an English actor called Joe Alwyn, who I've seen in a few things recently but just can't take to. It's a thriller set in Nicaragua and is a bit slow with a weak plot. But it's worth watching just for Qualley's performance which is quite simply stunning. She's definitely my current flavour of the month.

Just watching that now. She's a very versatile actress. very different to her part in the above film. Watched Novitiate the other day and she was completely different in that too. I see her next role is playing Ginger Rogers. Not sure how she'd suit blonde hair. Ana de Armas didn't albeit I think she'll get an Oscar for it.She's building a very solid career, enjoyed her performance in 'Once upon a time in Holywood' but she was truly excellent in 'Maid' which I watched on a "ran out of stuff to watch" binge.
Yeah saw that mate. Famous for delivering the worst line in movie history. lol You can see the resemblance in fairness. Edit. In looks that is.She’s American - Andie McDowell is her mum.

Don't get me wrong. I thought she was brilliant in it. But give me her natural look every day of the week is more what I meant.Ana De Armas didn't suit blonde hair?

Haha. Not sure saying somebody doesn't suit a particular colour hair labels an internet trope. Or does it??I get you mate, I just enjoy forcing the stereotypical internet trope.
