Stone went to Vietnam, it becomes more clear with every watch about the nightmare. He must have charisma like Monroe had looks, cos selling this doesn't seem an easy task.

With the recent success of 'All quiet' it's clear the cost of war is all to present. (I'm aware of Ukraine!)
There's a documentary about the making of 'Platoon'. You must watch it.

They interviewed all the actors: Depp, Sheen, Defoe... Stone basically tortured and abused them to get the movie to be exactly like his 'Nam experience!

He was a complete nutcase! We would lose it on the set, have war flashbacks and the like...

It's difficult enough watching it again and very slowly catching up with all of the messages he was sending. 1989, and ptsd, and the remains of the people that went and were lucky (or unlucky) to come back.

Lost, not loss, but the menial cost that no one accounted for. Such pain.

It's scary.

Oddly enough, in the Jackson movie 'Rules of Engagement' that I watched earlier he asks Guy Pearce: What was the life expectancy for a second lieutenant dropped into a hot zone in Vietnam in 1968?

He answers: 'A week.'

'Negative. Sixteen minutes.' He replies.

Have you ever listened to his directors commentary track on the DVD? He talks about things in the film similar to stuff he personally witnessed, small things like at the start loading body bags and the breeze from the blades blowing the covers off bodies, just small details that make the film so realistic.

And they had a huge drug problem during that war... The troops were getting high, and with it being the late 60's, LSD was making the rounds.

Imagine being on a powerful hallucinogen during the middle of a warzone?!?

90's Jackson is the best Jackson! lol
Try and find an obscure indi film called "The Search for One Eyed Jimmy"

Tremendous cast, Sam Jackson, Sam Rockwell, John Turtorro (and his brother, and his cousin Aida), Steve Buscemi, Jennifer Beals, Michael Badalucco, basically so many familiar faces in a film you've never heard of.

I'm not saying it's a 'must watch' but I'm 100% certain you've never seen anything like it before.

At one stage they toyed with the notion of doing a He-Man series with him as He-Man.

'I have the motherfcking power btch! Yes they deserve to die, and I hope they burn in hell!'

As you can imagine, it didn't bode well with the focus groups and it was scrapped in the early stages.

The Banshees of Inisherin.

Superbly played period tale about two men whose friendship is abruptly cut short. It's clear early on that the whole piece is an allegory for the Irish Civil War - (although references to it are few it's blindingly obvious).

Everything about this film excels, from cast to script, gorgeous cinematography and Barry Keoghan's sublime turn. It's bleak and beautiful and its effervescent gallows humour dovetails perfectly on screen next to the harrowing sorrow.

Recommended.

Ended up watching ‘A Man Called Otto’ last night. It was okay but wasn’t really too impressed. I’m a fan of Tom Hanks but he just didn’t sell the grumpy old man part for me. Felt he was kind of a weird choice for the role. I still need to watch the original.
