Last Film You Watched

Civil War

Seen this last week at the cinema, went in blind with no knowledge of anything about the film.
I actually thought it might have been historical movie about the US civil war or something, didn't know it was fictional.

Anyway it was alright, didn't expect it to follow journalists around in war zones, had some of the best war scenes I've seen in movies.

One issue with the movie I found it hard to get past was the actual civil war was more interesting than what the movie was focusing on.

6/10

Just watching that Rebel Moon 2 - The Scargiver on Netflix, reminded of how dreadful the first one was.
It’s just awful, never mind the dodgy plot, the over indulgent cinematography is mind boggling, there a scene where they’re harvesting some wheat and it’s filmed like some pivotal moment in the film.
You can see how it’s cost so much to make but good lord what an absolute turkey of a movie.
Don’t think Snyder has done anything 1/2 decent since 2013’s Man of Steel.

Watched it last night too.

It`s marginally better than the first, but still has a script like a 12yr old has written it.

I think the correct description of both films, would be self indulgent rubbish.

As @ste d' indica said, even Sofia Boutella can`t save these films.

Sadly, it looks like there`ll be a third.

The reason it followed the journalists around, was so that the film makers couldn`t be accused about taking political sides, even though in essence it was the Republican states v the Democrat sates and it wasn`t that hard to see, that the president was Trump.

I've heard mixed things about it. Apparently it's hitting that tipping point of 90s camp irony like George Clooneys nipple heavy Batman.
It's 90s John Carpenter.

You look at his catalogue from the time period and see more turds than a sewage farm.

Sad to see a guy who throughout the 70s and 80s directed some of the best movies about just completely lose the plot.

Abjectly dreadful and quite reprehensible 'event horizon' is about to start on channel 4.

Might top up my dislike for this disaster. Would have been amazing if nic coppola had been the hell demon rogering them all silly in those campy split shots from the afterlife or whatever. The best few seconds of this film were binned. A ham hock of distinguished proportions. God awful schlock!

Boo!

Here he is. GOTs bewildered Barry Norman, with his shocking takes again.

Ran out of ideas or got talked into chasing a few more dollars? Maybe the business or tastes had evolved. Rockstar building a GTA style world for a Snake Plissken to play as with insane missions and the rest to complete would be a lot of fun. 80's synths, nods and homage to carpenter films and other horrors. Instant classic.

GTA Manhattan Island? It'd be good but only having Ernest Borgnines cab or The Duke's chandelier mobile would be a bit limiting.

A 'Tales From Manhattan Island' would be a good series though. Don't touch on Snake Plisken, the bigger USA or anything, just all the goings on in there from it's start and the development of their weird society.

boss events
I'm thinking roving biker gangs, and a somehow working subway system. And zip lines. Battle across Manhattan island looking to collect the pieces of the map to lead the mob out to freedom. Disco boogie beat down in studio54, a gang in each world tower, looking at it it seems a bit max payne. Not sure what the gimmick could be.
These couple of posts show more time and effort into plot than event horizon did in total. Baz N x.

Watched this last night - Exhuma.

South Korean horror.

It’s had very good reviews, but I struggled with it tbh.

An exhumation goes badly wrong and releases something very nasty.

It’s not a bad film, I just found it confusing, as the plot relies heavily on the watcher having a knowledge of South Korean burial rituals and folklore, which I obviously know nothing about !
I quite liked it. Not sure you need to have a knowledge of/understand the rituals, just accept they did some weird ritualistic [Poor language removed] and it went wrong, and enjoy! :D

I thought it was really good. I also went in not knowing anything about it, so was somewhat surprised about the route it took. My take on the "civil war" was that it was easier/more interesting to make it about a fictional civil war than base it on any real/potential foreign one, in terms of not taking sides. Plus this way you can get a "Jesse Plemons playing a weirdo in uniform" cameo in too... :D

Rita: Event Horizon is a terrible sci fi film.
Also Rita: I'm going to spend my evening watching Event Horizon.

Yeah sure Rita, you hate it, sure sure.

went in thinking it was an erotic body building film, turns out its an erotic 80 b-movie style revenge body horror/neo noir type thing. what a great romp
