Last Film You Watched

Time for a Nick Cage binge.

First up FaceOff, followed by The Rock, with a side order of Con Air to finish.

All three are stupid fun and although I dislike Michael Bay as a director, The Rock is a great 90’s action film.

Face/Off was originally supposed to star Arnold and Sly, that would have been interesting….

I think it worked so much better having two complete weirdos in Cage and Travolta. I’m not going to crap on Arnie and Sly but they just wouldn’t have been as good in those roles.

travolta and coppola at least had fully working faces at the time, which put them head and shoulders above the other two. And now for successful anyone from that period...

Watched the Phantom Menace in cinema, a fun romp. The prequels are unfairly maligned imo
Unfortunately it was released after what was almost 2 decades of anticipation.

Throw into the mix that the Internet was more or more prevalent and 35 year old virgins (with a platform now, some steam driven message board) were angry about them not being exactly the same as the originals.

As three films together, I'd say they were better than the final 3. (Even though I quite liked Rey and Kylo Ren)

Christ, I sound like a 52 year old virgin.

face off - 1997
the rock - 1996
con air - 1997

The bad guys being the best parts of these? Travolta, Malkovich, Harris?

Shawshank 1994, Se7en 1995, (Million dollar baby 2004 to late, Unforgiven 1992 to early) Amistad 1997.

Let's go again. Thurman, Pulp fiction, Gattaca, Les Miserables.

Who is there to beat him into submission... A Bronx tale, Casino, Heat? Probably unfair going to an all timer. (Copland, Jackie Brown, Ronin)

Hmmm, A lesser light, but better films, mid 90's, three of... LA confidential, Priscilla queen of the desert, Memento? Just out - Memento '2000'. Oh this is harsh, LA confidential, the insider, Gladiator, Just out - Gladiator '2000'. Groundhog day, Ed Wood, Rushmore? tut, heavyweight all timer again. Can't find 3 for Vigo - lucky!
True romance, Se7en, Fight club. Chalk those three up as a home run. (Pitt)
True romance, Crimson tide, Get shorty, ? (Soprano)
Jurassic park, The Piano, Event Horizon (hahahahaha) (Neill)
Boyz n the hood, Deep cover, The Matrix (Fishburne)
Donnie Brasco, Fear and Loathing, Sleepy Hollow. (Depp)

nic coppola, the luckiest person to get that last name to have blundered into showbusiness. Hope for us all.

It's beyond me.

Phantom Menace was often dull, had a clone army who were worse shots than the original Stormtroopers and would have benefited hugely from having a director who could actually direct young actors / children. But it was OK.

Attack Of The Clones was just terrible and worse than any of the nine films by a huge margin. Completely rushed from writing, to filming and post production. Absolute shocker.

I remember quite liking Revenge Of The Sith though. Could be on the back of how bad it's predecessor was though so might be worth going back for another look.

Loved all of them. Give me a trade dispute and duel of the fates over a lazy rethread any day of the week

Talking about consecutive hits, as opposed to just big films from around the same era. DeNiro does come close though. Couple runs of 3/4 good/classics within a few years, but interspersed with some lesser/unknown films.

Yeah, they were pretty bad lol
Anyone who thinks the prequels are better than the sequels needs their head checking! :p Jar Jar Binks on his own drags them below pretty much anything else ever made! :D
