Here's a pic I took a few days back

its giving me Old (2021) M Night Shyamalan vibes

Speak No Evil, the remake with James McAvoy. It had its moments although I think it went off the deep end at the finale by going all out with the violence. It’s a great premise and something with potential to be a modern day Hitchcock tribute but it couldn’t resist the temptation for rushing the end with some gore.

I’d give it a 7/10.

Got round to Alien:Romulus. Wow. Was in shock by the end. The second half certainly caught me off guard.

Bit of a missed opportunity, I thought, as the first hour or so, I quite liked. A engaging set up, well shot, some great practical models being used, and some nicely tense scenes.

Then it suddenly goes nuts, and the last hour jumps around between boring, ridiculous, obnoxious and unintentionally funny.

I live in hope that they’ll make a decent Alien movie again. Not expecting anything as good as the first two, but it’s amazing how they keep ballsing up what is basically, a simple monster movie.

Maybe they could do a Prey-like film in the Alien universe. I fear there’s too much wank lore out there now to do it.

Completely agree. I was thoroughly engaged to begin with, the aesthetic was brilliant. The ridiculous Easter egging to other films in the franchise became laughable (I actually laughed out loud when the flute? music from Prometheus played in the background when the architects were mentioned) and the film played out like the director either completely lost the plot, ran out of ideas or the financial backers got involved.

Yeah, I laughed a lot in the final 20 minutes.

Not sure they ran out of ideas, they needed to cut a load of stuff out, and keep it simple.

As @Nymzee said, too much trying to cram in lore nonsense, where a stripped back ‘Prey’ type approach is what it needed.

I was surprisingly engaged for the first hour-ish

The Ian Holm Deep Fake / CGI was dreadful, and very distracting.
