Perfect Blue... it went on a bit but you can tell Aronofsky was a fan (Black Swan).

I think the brain [Poor language removed] element to it (basically all of it) pushed all the revision I had done earlier that day out of my head though... oh well.

Oh yes! Great film...second-favourite manga behind Akira.

I just got Black Swan in a bumper DVD parcel (100 x DVD's at 99 cents a pop...madness!). Really love Pi but Requiem For A Fream and The Fountain were hugely disappointing. Hoping Black Swan (and The Wrestler which is also in the parcel) are decent.

I liked Paprika as well by Satoshi Kon - have you seen that?

I haven't seen The Fountain - but I thought The Wrestler was great, and quite different from Black Swan as a study of someone's life. I'll have to disagree with you regarding Requiem for a Dream though...

Thanks for the Paprika tip...on the imdb watchlist it goes! Looking forward to The Wrestler as WWF was a guilty pleasure in me younger days.

Yeah, Requiem is a big favourite with a lot of people. My own drug experiences were quite positive (speaking as an old raver and now occasional psychedelic psychonaut) so maybe that's why I didn't like the film...it was far too one-sided in its portrayal. Trainspotting for example also showed us the dark side of recreational drugs, but it had loads of human moments of pathos & humour which we could relate to, even if most of us have no experience of the drugs portrayed...personally i never went near the big horrible H, but the film was still able to show you why the characters were tempted by it. None of that in Requiem.

Ellen Burstyn was brilliant, tho'...masterclass performance.

Cracking film. Pity Kon has since passed.

Thought I'd give Kingsman: Secret Service ago, but wished I hadn't. Probably need to be high to enjoy it. I really need to start vetting films before watching them.

I thought it was exactly what it advertised as being. A comic book adaptation.

Went to see that in the pictures when it came out and was the only one in there. Great movie, would suggest Millennium Actress too.

Wrestler is great, Black Swan is amazing.

Anyone else see "Project Almanac"? It's like the Time travel version of Chronicle. Someone in the costume department must be a blue!

Just watched Area 51. Total tosh.

Three young conspiracy theorists attempt to uncover the mysteries of Area 51, the government's secret location rumored to have hosted encounters with alien beings. What they find at this hidden facility exposes unimaginable secrets.

Had no idea what it was advertised as being, hence my comment of 'I really need to start vetting films before watching them'. Sometime I just watch films cold, so to speak, and see what I get.

aye, I like doing that...i try to avoid reading past the first couple of lines of blurb on the back, certainly avoid trailers. you do catch some utter guff sometimes, like the Cameron Diaz vehicle The Box, Sanctum or if you're really unlucky Cargo (only one of two films I rate a 1/10).

On the other hand you discover little-known gems like Buried, Open Water, Fire in the Sky and a host of foreign goodies like Save The Green Planet, Let The Right One In, Das Experiement and loads more.

I don't think I've ever seen a film I didn't have some even vague idea of what it's about. But that's just me I suppose.

by the way, if yous got the space get yoursenns a beamer projector. makes watching films so immersive...proper home cinema.

i got an old modell for cheaps on ebay, 720p, very decent quality as a 4x2m screen on white wallpapered wall.

Yep, just a quick glance at the info, if that, then jump right in. It really is hit or miss. Oddly enough I did it with Buried, and found that to be really good.

Well that's pretty much the norm I guess :)
