Last Film You Watched

Dawn of the planet of the apes....cliche hollywood yawnfest with utterly bland textbook characters with frozen-sincere expressions, but some fun cartoony action scenes. and obviously the ape with the darkest (and ugliest face) is the bad guy...ffs.

5/10, not particularly recommended.

Just watched fruitvale station on Netflix . Quality film but makes you angry at the end knowing that copper got out after 11 months . Sickening that.

Michael b Jordan is a boss actor he's already played 2 of my favourite characters. ( Wallace in the wire , his murder was ruthless and one of the best in the wire. and he was great as Vince in Friday night lights) and can't wait to see creed now .

Saw "The 33" last weekend. It's got some really weird casting choices and oddly ends up focusing on characters outside of the miners. There is a surreal "Last Supper" sequence that was well done but ultimately I had hoped for better. It probably needed to be a documentary instead of a movie to do the story justice. I would give it a 6 out of 10.

Heist was a major disappointment...seemed like the actors just showed up.

Lazy acting and obvious plot...the so called twist was so ridiculously obvious.

That womens wrestler or whatever she is seemed a bit miscast to me...

I dunno...just seemed a waste of time.

Man from UNCLE i enjoyed :p

The man from UNCLE last night wasn't bad. Enjoyable.

Just watched Heist. Not bad, one you'd watch if you like so so films.

Not even sure about that, professor...it's all CGI and i never really felt immersed with the apes themselves, the different shades of character they tried amounted to two-dimensional cliche. there's a real skill in emoting CGI characters and Andy Serkis can't do it all on his own, the story requires clever writing, the direction has to be stable and the CGI facial expressions need to be more naturally subtle. The human cast are equally important as they have to convincingly play off the CGI character, didn't happen here. Happened in King Kong and partially (with Gollum) the Lord of the Ring series, so it is possible.

the original Apes film is still the best as it makes the audience think a little, and Dr Zaius was a finely drawn character. In new films generally the movie does the thinking for the audience...a very bland experience which even OTT action scenes don't always make up for.

I expected to hate both of the planet reboot films but actually enjoyed them
I had them on while writing as background but engaged with them both
I don't disagree with any of your points Doc but I against my expectations enjoyed them
But I do have a pretty weird and eclectic like list

i enjoyed Rise more, tho' again the cheesy emotion feels were very forced, but that last stand on the bridge was thrilling. Dawn had a couple of entertaining action scenes also, to be fair.

ooo, i can't resist checking out someone else's list...let's have yer top 20 or so then, always looking for some decent recommendations
