Monsters - Dark Continent

I should preface this a bit as I'm a big fan of Monsters. I think it was a genuinely original and extraordinary piece of film making, both as a finished article and in the way it was put together.
So the sequel. It had to tread it's own path and I tried to come at it with an open mind but it ain't good.
The idea that the 'infection' has spread to the middle east and US forces are fighting both the creatures and insurgents is decent enough, but it's painted with such broad strokes if fails badly. Characters are extremely two dimensional and often unpleasant, script is witless and the style rips off far more impressive work done in Generation Kill. The elegance, subtlety and beauty of the first film is lost; you could cut the first hour of MDC and lose nothing, by the time it attempts to recapture the tone of Monsters it's far too late, Jon Hopkins gorgeous score is replaced with awful frat boy rock and the opalescent displaced creatures of the first film are gone, 'evolved' into rampaging video game nasties.
Very poor.

On last night and hadn't watched it for years.

I'd never realised how bad the lazy stereotypes are in this film beofre !

White people - either rednecks or white collar conservatives.
Non whites - Rasta drug dealers, street people or text book Cubans.

Plus the end when Danny Glover is turned into a white person by being covered in white dust !!!

You wouldn't get away with making a film like this now !

Watched 'Beasts of No Nation' on Netflix over the weekend.

A fairly decent and depressing film about child soldiers in Africa. It stars Idris Elba, who puts in a great performance but is massively overshadowed by the 2 little lads 'Agu' the films main character and his silent buddy 'Stryka'

It reminded me a lot of a lesser known film called 'Johnny Mad Dog' only with higher production value and feeling a little less gritty. I'd actually rate 'Johnny Mad Dog' as the better of the 2 films actually, but thats not to say this isn't worth a watch as it is still a very good film :)

Watched deadpool....thought it was terrible

No actual original story or plot...perhaps 4 out of 4000 funny one liners...

4 of us wanted to walk out at the start but stayed in until the end with the odd glance wondering what on earth was this we were watching.

i cannot understand what people see in this??

1/10.

Deadpool and it was every thing I wanted it to be .

Really boss

Two completely different reviews.

To help decide me to believe which review is relevant to me, recommend another film that you like?

What's for tea tonight

In fact I'd wager anyone who went to see it without even knowing who the character is pretty dumb.

It's a film for a certain audience.. people who like comics. It's made for them and nothing else

Moaning about it because you didn't understand it without having prior knowledge about it is like going to a rugby match and moaning that it isn't football.
