Just because a potential buyer is Asian means nothing more or less than a Yank, I highly doubt people would be happy with Vincent Tan rolling up at Goodison. Whoever comes in will probably be better than the current lot so I'm relatively happy to see this go through.

Not so sure - you can't just say anyone look at Venkys, H&G, Khan, Tan etc There are cowboys out there who haven't a clue. We can't and mustn't just accept anyone.

Using Ferguson as a yardstick is just unfair.

Ok, fair enough. In the last, what, 5 seasons, (maybe 4), they have won a charity Shield, and spent gazillions to do so.

Cant be arsed looking it up, but out of the top 5 clubs in the world, I would hazard a guess that that does not stack up that well against the other 4.

Who would have thought Moyes and pillow head would have turned out so badly? I presume you knew better?

They should have gone all out for Guardiola but then again, they may have. No one will probably know. And for the record, Im not keen on the yanks, I just think the Glaziers are a bad example as owners who have failed.

I think the fault in the assumption is that Ferguson succeeded because of United. The reality is that United succeeded because of Ferguson. Take him away and they've won no more than Villa. @bizzaro

Aside from how they took over which all seemed a bit snidey, most here would have thought their managerial signings were good and look at the dough they have spent.

If that's the owner's fault, it's for firing Moyes/hiring LVG. Ferguson hired Moyes, and they hired his replacement. Not sure what else the owners are meant to do.

I think we can all agree that what we really want is some Arab nut-job who lost his mind whilst trying to count his own money and now his only route back to sanity is to spend it quicker than he's pumping it out of the ground, failing that a crooked Russian on Putin's plutonium list who needs a safe haven or black hole for his cash.

These Yanks seem far too sensible to me so on the off-chance it could the China-man who's misinterpreted his fortune cookie or tea leaves or something, I vote China.

Im not even sure I would count Lerner originally as a failed owner. He gave O'Neill money and time. Its just afterwards he's obviously thought it was pointless and just wanted out

I'd fault him for cutting the budget short and not finding a buyer sooner. Nobody wants to buy a distressed property (although, Tom Hanks has money and likes Villa). I do like what Lerner did redeveloping near the ground, but unlikely he'll be remembered for such.

Fair point.

Im not that big a fan of LVG, but I thought he would at least make them competitive and lay the groundwork of another generation of wonderkids as he's done at pretty much every club he's been at. I dont think anyone expected him to be this bad.
