look at Southampton
Different situation. They sell players high and buy low. It's a great strategy to build a competitive team. Not a money-making scheme.

Edit:
Also...that's peanut money to billionaires. They have to replace the player...and it can't be too cheap or you get protests and the lot...

Much easier to make money without asset stripping by selling players.

Whoever takes over this great club must not only understand the 'history' but also the passion and difference the fans and indeed this club stands for.

I think that's where American owners typically get into trouble. The cultural barrier between an American club and a European club is huge. Compared to the other US groups who have bought into the Premier League, this one seems pretty sensible. We'll see I guess.

As much as the current board and BK are as polarizing as it gets between Evertonians, I'm sure everyone agrees he actually is, hhmmm, and Evertonian. That much is obvious.

Now, I'm as cautious at the next man, and this has been going on for soooooo long (24/7 whatever!!!) but I really believe that they have gone about this with such caution and concern to find the right deal for our club, that we can be a little optimistic. Lets wait and see what the details of the deal are before we all go into meltdown/panic/jubilation etc etc.

For all our failings with lost stadiums, missed transfer opportunities (if we believe what we read in the press), lies, deceit etc....we are Everton, we are well respected, we came through major, MAJOR financial difficulties. Have we been badly run?

Picture this scenario. We get taken over, we have money, we get a new stadium or re-develop the Old Lady (take your pick), we have been patient (fans and the board) and they found the best deal for our amazing club?

Hey, I'm a blue. I live in la la land remember. But I am (cautiously) optimistic here.
My fear is that with Bill being unwell and they need to sell, they may rush into the most money they can get rather than what is best for the club.

Whoever takes over this great club must not only understand the 'history' but also the passion and difference the fans and indeed this club stands for. Yes its easy to say that every club has a core that thinks this, but we are different and I believe unique. Our performances over the last ten years have completely been against what the majority thought we would achieve. That's not once bit practically every season. Most of the time the media seem to be against us, look at us a mid table team that simply over performs more than others. To me, if someone is looking to invest in Everton, they do there homework, that provides the status of the club as much as the resaleable value and player assets. Evertons fan base is very different to that of many other clubs and if a party buys us on a ' how quick can we resell at a profit' angle, they will be in for a real shock and also have a huge audience/fan participation issue. I'm all for investment, but real investment that we can pay back on the pitch and over a period of time. For all that people have blamed Bill for, he has for me not only been our chairman but also out guardian. Get well soon and whoever buys us I hope you are the man that decides it.

I love the idea of some rich American loon looking at our history, what we have achieved against all the odds in the premiership era against the big spending clubs, likes the ninjas and their smoke bombs and gets a hard on at the idea of taking this once fallen giant to the pinnacle of european football.

In reality, hes looking at us, thinking £200m to buy, maybe £50m on a stadium with a bit of help from the council/government/EU/whatever and sell up for £400m. Thats pretty much in a nutshell what he done with that baseball team.

what would be a better reflection of that than selling Barkley, Stones, and Lukuku? Is that what we want from our new owners?

making a profit from football and being ambitious about climbing the league table are almost never compatible.

when most people on here say they want new ownership, what they really want is another middle-eastern dictatorship a la city to throw money at us for fun. but there are not a lot of people who want to invest hundreds of millions of dollars so they can lose hundreds of millions more, least of all, by the sounds of it, these new Americans

I'm 22, never seen the club win a trophy and almost had to settle for mediocrity. I'm not saying these new owners are going to make us champions but I'd like to assume that they will help push the club on and bring some money into the club to help us pick up silverware. I understand fans who seemed worried because let's be honest change at the top of club is concerning. We need to give these potential new owners a chance and hope they bring the good times back to Everton.

Because Barkley, Stones, and Lukaku are not Lallana, Lambert, and Lovren?

Our players are better. They did the equivalent of selling Rodwell for £12 million. I'm sure we were all ok with that if it went back into the squad?

My point is that selling players to make a profit is a terrible way to make a profit. Makes much, much more sense to solidify and watch tv and sponsorship money grow.

Sunderland are routinely top-ten in wage spending, escaped relegation by a prayer the past few years, and will need more than prayers to stay up this year. Khan took a Europa League finalist that routinely challenged us in the table, and that finished 12th when he bought them, and relegated them in the first year. he's gone through five managers in two-and-half years, and they are four points off relegation to the third division.

if THAT's your definition of successful management, then I can see why you're optimistic. This is what the Gwladys end can look like when we go down under the next Short/Khan:

you can do better mate

I never said these guys were successes. I suggested they hadn't failed yet; maybe I've just misjudged them. I didn't realize, however, the final Europa spot was Fulham's by right. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

so if Everton get relegated under new ownership, you'll say that they "haven't failed yet"? Fair play, but I think you'll be the only vote in the "yes" column on that poll...

John Moores owned the San Diego Padres from 94 to 2012. In that time a historically unsuccessful baseball team won 5 Major League Titles (1 National League Pennant & 4 West Division Titles), finished runners up in the 1998 World Series to the Yankees (Only their 2nd ever appearance in the World Series), had their most successful ever season (1998), achieved 4 consecutive winning seasons for the only time in their history between 2004 and 2007 and moved to Petco Park.

Kenwright bought Everton in 99, since then we've won f*** all, reached a Champions League qualifier, lost an FA Cup final & had 2 failed ground moves.

But people are worried about what might happen if the yanks take us over?

I welcome the takeover. If it all goes wrong then there is only one man to blame and that is Kenwright himself. Afterall he has said for so many years that he will only sell to the right man. Its took this long so they must be the right men.
Honest though, he has dug himself in it a little bit by banging that drum so often. He will be liable for what he's done in the past and what these lot do in the future.
