I love Zep and was lucky enough to see them live, twice in 72, all 5 nights at Earls Court in 75 and at Knebworth. I have 2 tattoos, the Everton crest on my left arm and the four symbols on the right one.[/QU0tE]
What was Knebworth like? Some reports say it was under subscribed, with "only" 40000 at the second gig and a pretty poor performance, and then others say both shows were sold out, with something like 250000 at the first gig, and similar at the second. Earls Court must have been amazing! Zep at their absolute pinnacle.
don't know on the crowd size, big on both nights but definitely more on the first night. If my memory serves me right i thing it was planned for one night but demand was that high they added the second later which is why there was a smaller crowd. Was not the best shows ever but was hell of a long day with some rubbish bands on, only Todd Rundgren was any good. Earls Court was very good as they had just finshed a tour of the states and were on fire, but have to say the show at Trenthan Gardens, Stoke in 72 was the best.
I can't stand what they came to stand for, which is overblown 70's stadium rock BS. Never saw 'em, but from what I understand Jimmy Page was simply awful live, very sloppy but that's not first hand knowledge.
As a general rule I don't like Blues-based music, and i hate white guys trying to be bluesmen even more...having said that they do have some stuff I like.
He was on heroin most of the time when he played live.
That's a pretty ignorant statement. Some of the best blues artists are white. Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks, The Allman Brothers, Steve Winwood, etc.
I don't like any of those artists...how can that be an ignorant statement when it's a matter of opinion? I don't like blues music and I literally hate every one of those artists music....except some solo stuff by Winwood.
Sorry for calling you ignorant, but in your post you made it sound like white people can't play good blues music and that is simply not true. I don't like straight up blues much either, but I do like blues influenced rock. Artists like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Joe Bonamasa(sp?), and the Allman Brothers band.
John Paul Jones is a monster on the bass
And piano, organ, mandolin, flute, etc etc.
