Leeds United

Yes. Proper club back where they belong.

I don't understand this "belong" phrase people keep mentioning. I doubt anyone said this about Huddersfield who also have the same amount of titles as Leeds.

Leeds have only had 50 seasons in the top flight out of their 92 seasons. And have only had 12 seasons in the Premier League out of nearly 30.

In my opinion, they belong in the PL next season for the simple reason that they are there on merit after gaining promotion.

Only this. Over a season, you earn where you belong the season afterwards. We win enough games, we win the league, we don't win enough to stay up, we get relegated. Doesn't matter if either of those events happen often or only in distant memory. It's taken them 16 years to get back to the top flight, so the indication to me is that they are starting from a low base compared to the other more established teams in the top division. I would think that they are facing relegation battles, but if they stay up and beyond who knows. I can't even see them doing a Sheffield United and getting top half in their first season up.

We all know Leeds reputation for horrible fans, is this still the case? Or have they been calmed down by being exposed to a more sanitised game and more media coverage than ever before?

Clubs who were formed pre 1900s when football crowds were low, their average will suffer slightly because of the low crowds during the start of football . But here’s the top 20 all time averages .

Lived in Leeds for 4 great years, ,just before they got relegsted. got on OK with the fans (in the city centre, not at the match). Happy to see the club in the prem again.

We've also had 64,851 at Goodison and 40,149 also watched the same game on large screens at Anfield. It was a derby like but over 105k right there. That's how a one team city might look here.

Technically we should be 3rd as two clubs (utd and spurs) were borrowing other larger stadiums when they achieved their highest attendances. Which frankly is just cheating.

Also if we were to compare, we have to add we hosted a World Cup semi final, I don’t think Elland Road even got a game during WC66. Goodison Park was one of the finest stadiums in the land when opened in 1892 and that remained the case for 100 years. It's only after the PL started did it begin to fall behind others. Hopefully soon we will be back amongst that top level.

We're unfortunately that club that big-ish, but not really big clubs like Leeds, Newcastle etc try to argue they're on the same level as in order to feel as though they're of a certain calibre.

They're really, really not though. And that's ok.

Villa are. Leeds and Newcastle are most definitely not. Completely different levels. And again, that's totally ok.

I guess I’m looking back to the 70’s - 80’s Era where I remember massive games against teams like Leeds and Villa in front of packed stadiums filled with 30K+ rabid fans.

I get the “you’re in the prem on merit” argument however I’d rather see us playing teams like Leeds and Villa than no-mark teams like Watford or Bournemouth in their crappy plazzy stadiums filled with 15000 no-nothing bellends every other week.

In Leeds defence, they have a very big floating fan base. Bigger than both ourselves imo. The Revie years are legendary and is often cited as one of the top club sides ever from this country. They built up a lot of rivalries with teams all over the country, although part of that was due to their hooligan element. It’s a big notorious club. It wasn’t a club I thought was that big in my younger days, as the big clubs to me were Liverpool , United, Arsenal, Everton, Spurs, Villa, but looking back they did establish themselves.

I think you might as well include social media following if you're going to go off things like that. But it wouldn't support your idea, apparently.

I personally think the conversation is thrown out as soon as you get to 3 league titles and one FA cup.

Not bad from us that as we have had the capacity cut for decades, certainly over the last decade of prem football we could easy have added at least 5 thousand to are average gates.
