Leighton Baines & Marouane Fellaini Thread

He's earned the chance, good luck to him. He's not an Evertonian, he's a footballer making a living and has pretty much "made it" now. I'm sure he'll kick on and be an ever better player for them.

He'll also be 33 years old and wanting big money.

The Anichebe sale was fine, not bothered by that in the slightest.

The issue is that come next Summer we'll lose Lukaku, Barry, and Deulofeu, and Distin will more than likely be put out to pasture. Short term our squad is looking great, but if we don't spend some big money in January or next Summer we'll be in trouble.

Not being a doom monger, but it's worth remembering before we pat Blue Bill on the back.

One step at a time. The squad looks a lot stronger than it did yesterday, and we've shown a profit.

Don't forget, we've apparently saved money by dodging Felli's loyalty bonus and sell on fee.

We've kept Bainsey and the icing on the cake is the Lukaku deal, which I didn't see coming.

All we need now is a big money owner and we might be able to keep him.

Well said. Sad he's gone, but we've got a good youngster to replace him, along with Bazza and Luky. People shouldn't worry about next season until next season. Let's live in the now for now, and enjoy watching this years version of our favourite team, COYB!!

In January, or next summer, Hibbo, Jelavic(now third choice?) ,Osman , Probably Heitinger, maybe Peinnar and Distin, and a few others will be going or will have gone. Some will simply ease the wage budget, but we may get a fee for Jela, and maybe a little more. The point is that even with players moving out, we should have finance to replace them and we will still have a solid squad. Loan deals are becoming common with most clubs, Moyes failed with a loan attempt , and Arsenal have taken a keeper on loan. Its noticeable that 'loan fees' are now becoming common, and although a fee was not involved with Barry, we are apparently paying ALL his over £110k a week wages ...something Moyes would never have considered, but something that Bill has sanctioned for Martinez. There is a change of thinking at Everton because Bill is now dealing with a manager who has a sense of adventure, and is also prepared to sign the likes of Lukaku, which I feel is 'one for the fans'.
Interesting that we were also in for Fernando...people who shout 'fake bid' should be aware that by obtaining the work permit we were not creating a smokescreen, but being prepared in the eventuality of the signing.Getting the admin right is vital...Moyes lost out on his attempted loan because United were 'late'.Martinez has more about him business wise, and is well organised, with good qualifications.
It makes a difference.

The thing is though mate we have plenty of cover for Distin (i dont think he will be in the starting eleven at the end of the season) there are noses being made about keeping Deulofeu another year and to be honest i am just glad we have a 20m+ striker even if its just for one season (But you never know!!!!!!)

Whilst of course u have to look and keep an eye and indeed a plan on the future, you can't operate every deal, every thought and every plan on the future. There is a here and now which is just as important. The here and now shapes the future!

A quick look accross the park at kenny trying to shape just for the future with young english talent and the consequences of that shows the dangers of neglecting the here and now.

I really do appreciate Fellaini's behaviour throughout the whole transfer window. It's clear that he was looking to move to a champions league club since the start but he kept on playing, maintained dignity, did not disrespect or agitate the club, and in the end got his move.
Who knows whether he was urged to put in the request etc, but fact is everyone did well out of this transfer. We got 4m over his release clause, and he got to move on to a team challenging for silverware.
He gave us 5 years of service and some of my favourite recent EFC memories.
I wish him success (although not at our expense ever) and will keep my eye on his development. Great player.

pretty much feel the same as you mate. Gutted to see him go but I don't think we could turn down 27.5m for him. Would rather it have got done sooner to get more reinforcements in but hey ho that's the last day of the window. Fair play to Baines as well for not kicking up a stink, hope he gets rewarded with a bumper contract because basically I think that was his last chsnce where United will come in for him. I wish Fellaini well but hope not well enough to win them trophies and he ****s them off in 18 months for Madrid!

But that's exactly what you are being, Mr. B.

A "doom monger".

It's like you are looking for reasons to be unhappy.

Relax.

Enjoy the moment.

:)

Bang on. We will only know how good this window has been in January.

If we make a few good signings then, it will have been great. If we don't, all we have done is plugged the short term gaps and sent more money into the abyss.

This season we have a very good squad indeed, but next season, all we have signed is McCarthy and lost Felli.

Don't get me wrong, keeping baines and the business we have done is sensational for this season

My thoughts really. I'm happy with the window, but it'll be a travesty if Martinez isn't given the leftover change (should be 15 mil!) to spend in Jan - on one top player (Fernando, Pjanicć etc.). Also, Jelavić I think has been given a second chance here. If he doesn't perform by Jan, I reckon Martinez may decide to sell (and like with Vic - there's nearly always a club willing to pay!).

Barry will be a free agent next July so he may very well stay-on, but he wouldn't cost if he did. Lukaku is a stop-gap but a very good one! Hopefully Deulofeu's loan is extended as well as he will still get nowhere near the Barca team and I think he could be a regular starter for us by next May.

Factor in that we should have some TV money next year (other clubs have borrowed against it for transfers - e.g. Norwich - while our board have seemingly made it disappear or most likely paid off debts and other operating costs. Whatever the case, the big money comes in next year, but with FFP coming into play, most clubs have spent big now. Also, we'll most likley have Heitinga's wages off the book. I'm worried a certain Belgian winger may not be here this time next year, but we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it!
