Leighton Baines & Marouane Fellaini Thread

Fair play, we know we ain't billionaires and big players financially but the club played well tonight - getting lukaku was inspired.

I live in the midlands and the kid is very comfy at WBA, had to pull our finger out to get him and he is the biz.

With the usual caveats of us being in the wrong hands long term stiffing shthouse Moyes to pay over the odds and improving the side considerably is good work.

I know it's not popular here to praise the Management of Everton but I have to say from my perspective - Congratulations on a fantastic Window.

We've strengthened the squad undeniably, get Baines (our most valuable player from a footballing perspective) and strengthened the financial position of the club, all in all a good night's business. And before I get shot down for saying it, it is important that our finances are strengthened even with greater tv revenues in the future.

Our ability to compete for talent in future windows depends on our relative financial strength and the quality of our team manager - it seems that Martinez has not only performed well, but is a manager that can attract talent to the club.

Feeling very optimistic for the coming months....

Agreed. Ok Deulofeu and Lukaku are loans but their clubs would probably not sell them and, even if they did, we probably couldn't afford them. I'm still grateful that we've attracted such high-quality players. It beats watching some of the players that we could afford.

I hope we have a sell on clause on him.

I think he is brilliant, and it wont take long for them to see it, and within 3 years, he will get that dream Real Madrid move.

Easy? we kept possibly the best left back in Europe, signed a premier league winning England international, signed LUKAKU, signed one of barcas most exciting youngsters.

I know your going to say "but its only on loan" but so what? enjoy them while they are here.

'on loan' is exactly the point mate. we've sold more assets and basically replaced them with finance loans including upfront fees and extra salaries where we don't get to own the asset in the long term. So in the short term even if sp*nking all the fellaini money might balance the books in longer term we've just sold some more family silver to prop up a failing business with less quality assets.

He's good but £27.5m is probably his max value. Think he might do well there but he won't ever be moving to Real Madrid

Put this in the Lukaku thread but I'll pop it in here anyway

To be honest, the fact that it's Martinez first season it's always gonna tough in the window for him. Especially when trying to keep our best players.

He's played it safe by buying players he knows, keeping 1 key player, and adding a bit extra with credible loans who have proven records. He's also sold a player for a good price.

He could've spunked all the money on unproven players and it bite him in the arse. But he hasn't.

He'll have ideas to put into place, and without falling at the first attempt, he'll look at having a solid first season and move on into the next.

He's done well.

Would've liked some steel in the midfield though

If the Ginger one had stayed Felli would have still gone as he stated he wanted Champions league football - We kept Baines and added good players - with cash to spare my main grief is the earlier signing of Kone who is 29 and selling Victor but we got 5 million for him and he is injury prone!

Fellaini wanted a buyout clause in his contract. That disgusted me from the word go.
I work dam hard in my job and earn enough to give my family a decent living.
He 'earned' 75k a week and has been going through the motions for almost 8 months now, and since day 1 his dad has moaned about us not being good enough. He hasn't wanted to be here so good riddance.

Only thing that upsets me is that we have bailed Moyes out of an awkward situation.
He has been an absolute embarasement since he went to united.
