No.

Martinez's years will be seen as the pivotal point when the scandalous betrayal of Everton's football tradtion was ended, hoofball was abandoned, and a passing game was restored.

It won’t, but good meme.

It was such a great passing style that we had our two worst league finishes in over a decade, bottled a European tie that we were 3-2 ahead in, a League Cup semi final that we were 3-1 up in and an FA Cup semi final that we snatched defeat from after drawing level and missing a pen to go ahead

I for one will tell my grandchildren about such iconic feats as getting 72 points but finishing 5th, and being the last English team in Europe because we played on a Thursday.

The score was still 1-0 to United when Lukaku missed the pen.

A pen Baines should have been taking if he stood up for himself a bit...

This is what happens when children are starved of affection. They grow into adults who desperately need to be heard even when they have nothing to say.

Look, enough people have been briawashed to accept no marks in an Everton jersey who won nothing as 'legends'.

I'm not one of them.

An above average player for us, but no more than that. In a decent succssful Everton team he'd never have made the first team. You need to be competent at defending to get into any successful team. Ashley Cole was always head and shoulders above Baines precisely because he could defend aggressively. Baines was and always will be a pushover as a defender.

Ashley Cole was one of the best left backs of all time, so using him as an example of a better player doesn’t invalidate Baines being a very good player.
It’s just not true that Baines was a pushover as a defender. His main strength was in attack but that doesn’t mean he didn’t defend well. Do you really think David Moyes would have happily kept a left back who couldn’t defend at all?

So much hate for Everton rather than embracing the good parts of it. I’m sorry you think so many Everton players, especially those who show loyalty and don’t go chasing money and titles.

and ‘brainwashed’. It’s just people enjoying football and the community and team they love.

Fair enough.

I always find that a harsh way to judge a player tho.

If we're only judging on footballing ability that is not always reflected in trophies won, a lot of other factors contribute to it

exactky .... Alan shearer and Leicester’s ozaki have both won the same amount of trophy’s and one is still playing... I’d know who I would rather have. Le tissier is another and there are many excellent players that have won nothing in comparison to Phil Neville and he’s cack.

ignor him mate ...the man saying we have been brainwashed into accepting mediocre players ... is the same man that wants us to sign albrighton

mid right Dave ... back to the glory days Yeah. I don’t seem to remember our title winning teamstgrowing away 3 goal lease with 10 mins of a game left every other week. I can’t imagine they had players thatwernt fit enough to play 90 mins and I’m pretty sure they “ believed “ in corners

Firmly of the belief had we 2 or 3 players of Baines quality in other key positions when at his best we would have won things. And anyone questioning Ancelotti desire to have Baines still around Goodison needs to give their heads a wobble.

I hate Everton because I wont be cajoled into thinking that a player like Baines was merely above average?

I think plenty of Everton players have been great, it's just that Baines is nowhere near that mantle.

And if you rubbished an Everton player I think is great would that make you hate Everton too?

Also, I haven't just compared Cole with Baines and found him lacking; I compared Baines with 4 or 5 other Everton LBs I've seen and found him lacking too.

I can remember as far back as Mike Pejic, he's not as good as he was. Bailey, Van Den Hauwe, Lescott, Hinchcliffe...all better defenders and players than Baines.

He was nothing without Pienaar filling in for him. Never in a million years a defender.
To say he isn't better than Bailey tells you everything you need to know, you've got an agenda. I've been watching Everton consistently since the start of the 80's and Baines is the best left back that we've had in that time.
