Bit like Martinez then?A footnote in Everton's history.
No.Bit like Martinez then?
No.
Martinez's years will be seen as the pivotal point when the scandalous betrayal of Everton's football tradtion was ended, hoofball was abandoned, and a passing game was restored.
It won’t, but good meme.
It was such a great passing style that we had our two worst league finishes in over a decade, bottled a European tie that we were 3-2 ahead in, a League Cup semi final that we were 3-1 up in and an FA Cup semi final that we snatched defeat from after drawing level and missing a pen to go ahead

Look, enough people have been briawashed to accept no marks in an Everton jersey who won nothing as 'legends'.
I'm not one of them.
An above average player for us, but no more than that. In a decent succssful Everton team he'd never have made the first team. You need to be competent at defending to get into any successful team. Ashley Cole was always head and shoulders above Baines precisely because he could defend aggressively. Baines was and always will be a pushover as a defender.
Fair enough.
I always find that a harsh way to judge a player tho.
If we're only judging on footballing ability that is not always reflected in trophies won, a lot of other factors contribute to it
Ashley Cole was one of the best left backs of all time, so using him as an example of a better player doesn’t invalidate Baines being a very good player.
It’s just not true that Baines was a pushover as a defender. His main strength was in attack but that doesn’t mean he didn’t defend well. Do you really think David Moyes would have happily kept a left back who couldn’t defend at all?
So much hate for Everton rather than embracing the good parts of it. I’m sorry you think so many Everton players, especially those who show loyalty and don’t go chasing money and titles.
and ‘brainwashed’. It’s just people enjoying football and the community and team they love.

I hate Everton because I wont be cajoled into thinking that a player like Baines was merely above average?Ashley Cole was one of the best left backs of all time, so using him as an example of a better player doesn’t invalidate Baines being a very good player.

To say he isn't better than Bailey tells you everything you need to know, you've got an agenda. I've been watching Everton consistently since the start of the 80's and Baines is the best left back that we've had in that time.I can remember as far back as Mike Pejic, he's not as good as he was. Bailey, Van Den Hauwe, Lescott, Hinchcliffe...all better defenders and players than Baines.
He was nothing without Pienaar filling in for him. Never in a million years a defender.
