Leighton Baines

If we turned down £18m, as that post suggests we would, I'd be made up. At worst then we'd have a huge wedge to spend if he did leave. I don't want Baines to go at all, but I couldn't take it if he left for a small fee.

I fail to see how Baines can go for less than Lescott did, but that said have absolutely no faith in the Everton board that they'll get as good a deal for him.

Baines is far more important to us than Lescott ever was. It's a lot harder replacing a world class left back.

Say we end up getting between 15 - 20m for him, what will Moyes get... between 50 - 75% of the money to reinvest back into the squad? So maximum 15m if we got top whack for him, but more likely just over 10m.

We couldn't get a decent left back for under 5m, and what would the other 5m buy us? A championship striker?

Sad times...

I'd say 25m or [Poor language removed]. Or even better 20m plus Cleverly or Welbeck. If they want him bad enough...

Why have Everton football club not come out and stated the lad is not for sale?

The lad wants to stays with Everton so why are the club standding in the shadows allowing rumors to drag on all summer.

Because every player is up for sale... at the right price. I'd be gutted. Has there been a better left back at Everton than Baines?

Probably Ray Wilson. I never saw him play live but he's the yardstick by which EFC's left backs are judged. I'd say Baines is the best LB I've seen play for Everton, and I've seen them since 1969.

Not that i've seen but a special mention for Andy Hinchcliffe with his amazing left foot.

I was thinking about this, this morning. I really rate Baines- very good player, great pro and a decent fella. But.. If we really have to sell someone and its between Fellaini and Baines then Im sorry to say I would let Leighton go.

I hate having to sell our players I really do, I just honestly think Fellaini is that good we cannot let him go. We have an excellent spine to the team in my opinion:

Howard
heitinga/Distin/Jags
Fellaini
Jelavic

If we can add some quality around those positions I truly believe we are a match for anyone in the premier league. If selling Baines means we can add quality then Im afraid he may have to be sacrificed :-(

My thoughts exactly.

Like you I never had the pleasure of seeing him play. But most blues say Baines is a step up from Pat van den Hauwe . Shows the quality of player he is.
