Steve Bateman (former Sky Sports journo) tweeted that the deal to take Baines to Manchester Utd is close

Understand that Manchester United are now very close to sealing a deal with Everton's Leighton Baines. #MUFC #EFC

lcab updates.

No contact for Baines before they left for Austria. It will take £20m + for an offer to be accepted. Depending on how much we spend, if Baines goes we're likely to see most of it back for use to spend on transfers. No one wants Baines to leave, not even Baines himself.

Baines wont go, he is irreplacable, he is the only person in our squad that fits that discription, he does not want to go and united will not play 15-20 million for a player who will be 28 by crhistmas and is on 3 years younger than there current LB who is still a decent player, utd very very rarely sign the finished article, van der saar was the last and they got him for nothing, AINT HAPPENING

Yeh he's fine with pass and move but fine isn't and should not be good enough for Manchester United. He can't dribble the ball for toffee and he's far too pedestrian. Can you seriously imagine him containing top-end players with serious pace and trickery? Especially in an open attacking game played at high pace? I know I wouldn't trust him.

And are you actually suggesting it doesn't matter that a supposed attacking full-back can't dribble the ball. Look at the apparent best in the world Coentrao, Marcelo, Alba, Alaba, Perreira...Evra!!! They are all comfortable dribbling at pace. Baines doesn't have that explosiveness. If he is shut down by defensive wingers, midfielders or full-backs he is too easily neutralised. He does not have the variation in his game...he's one dimensional.

He's been Everton's main attacking outlet for a while now which goes a long way to explaining his apparently boss crossing stats.

I love you, Leigthton. Never gonna give you up!

Man they are thick, I can remember him dribbling past players plenty of times, definitely more than Evra!!!

I think he is probably better than coentrao and alaba but manu fans think they know it all so whatever

I remember a United fan telling me when Rooney was just coming through that he'd be a flash in the pan and not amount to much - i pointed this out when they signed him. He denied all knowledge. Bell-end, like the majority of their fans who tend to know [Poor language removed] all about football.

Not exactly a Brains Trust over at RC - look at the comments about Fellaini

To be honest they are in denial. The rest of the world can see that City are twice the side they are right now. Good luck with the £25M chances then if they think that Baines or Fellaini aren't good enough for them simply based on them not winning any league titles here.

This is my favorite post from there

But he just isn't good enough with the ball. Fletcher can do everything Fellaini can do.

We are crying out for midfielders who can pass, make themselves available for a pass, and can create in tight spaces while being pressurized.

He can't do this.

Ironic considering Fellaini's two assists and his goal helping us to get the draw eventually had them finish 2nd to their main rivals.

Is that what really got said, jeeeez. I think they seem to forget some of the times he kept Ronaldo quiet against them lot?!. If thats what they think then more fool them.

They really do see themselves and there players through Man Utd, rose tinted specs them lot, one of em on twitter was trying to say to me that Nani is worth 40 to 45 million and that he's better than Bale! The "stats" prove it apparently, Nani as been **** for 3 years, Bale only last season, blah, blah, blah! Haha ****ing idiots!.

Atleast we appreciate what a good player Baines is and what he brings to a team!.

Okay, I know he's ours and we love him and he's boss and don't f**king leave us Baines ffs...

But let's not kid ourselves. He isn't better than Coentrao. We don't want to be known as the delusional half of Merseyside.. lets leave that to the red half.
