It simple, Journos shouldnt go to uni, waste of money. its just gossip queens who do stuff like this

Everton are talking to about 5 players at the min....

but thats gonna cos them about 20 million

they must be selling baines.... for at least 22million

but united wont pay that, i recon they would pay about £15...

hence

UNITED CLOSE IN ON BAINES FOR £15M but Everton want £20m

Its weird reading some of the posts in this thread, 2010 less then 2 years ago, you forget he really only became huge for us after Lescott left.

There is a beaut of a thread from 2008 in the vaults with lots wanting him sold in Jan.

Always said he was one of the best left English left backs in England when he was at Wigan, same when he was here. He just wasn't getting played because of lescott and I thought he should've moved on to get games.

Now he's supposedly good enough to play in one of Europe's biggest teams. I think he should go, for his own career. We need the cash, he's 27,he won't get another chance, will be England's first choice left back too.

I thought he was class at Wigan, was very happy we signed him for 6mil as expected more wealthy teams to be in for him.....wasn't too impressed Lescott was playing left back ahead of him for a time either....

Proved right here -- top top player !

If he goes to Man Utd he will immediately become England's first choice left back.

Just like Cahill jumped up the rankings as soon as he signed for Chelsea.

That's why when England lose I am slightly perturbed as opposed to fuming.

If Baines goes then I will be perturbed, but Moyes MUST hold out for more than he is worth. :)

Be honest, Baines was poor in his first season with us.
Lescott rightfully took his left back spot and actually player really well at left back.
It was only half way through 08/09 when Baines began to shine.
Today he is our best player, and we wont get a better replacement as he is one of the best in the world.
And thats the reason why he should not be sold, he cant be replaced with the same or better quality.

Baines will leave if we get a bid which is good enough for Moyes, in my eyes he is the best left-back in the League and is one of our key players, and is a great on the attack, which means he is worth alot more then 15 million, Carrol and Henderson went for 55 million, yeah is he is 27 but he is in his peak now and we shouldnt sell for less then 23 million and Man u can afford this, no way we let him go on the cheap, we got ripped off with Rooney.

To be honest mate, and I'm not making this up -- I just thought he needed a solid run in the team....said the same about Fellaini when he first came.

Rightly or wrongly I could have been but thankfully both have been moulded into top class players by us :)

I think Baines is saying that he wants to stay and wants us to hold onto players and move forward.

cant find the thread about the polish full back we were rumoured to be interested in but just see in the sunday tines moyes has him in his team of the euros.. maybe some truth in it he was available on a free wasnt he obviusly rates him

his comments in no way relate to the Daily Mirror's "Leighton Baines has admitted that Everton may be forced to sell him to Manchester United." quote. utter jibberish, Man Utd still havent even contacted us yet according to LCAB and that is what i believe.

ha, everton always play hard ball and always get a good deal ;)

if we did have to sell a player to get the funds we reportedly need to sign up the numerous players, if we can't get that sort of money for rodwell, i wouldn't be too dissapointed with baines going, not if pranjic is his replacement, we could do a lot worse IMO. Obviously i wouldn't want baines to go, but it could also see a better style of football rather than using our LB as our playmaker - hindsight IS a wonderful thing

This. i would be gutted if Baines went, but i would be devvo'd if Fellaini went

Tell me if im wrong, but 2 years ago, didnt we phone united on deadline days asking them if they would be interested in Rodwell as we where so short of cash?

Clearly he doesn't want to go.

He's excited about our squad and thinks we could challenge with a few additions.

But he isn't thick and knows how likely it is he could be pushed out.

Sigh.

To put the Baines situation into that of a business strategy. We head hunt Baines from a smaller up and coming firm, Baines settles with us, likes the work environment and the people around him, he's happy with the pay structure and the occasional bonus ( F.A Cup final) but he's attracting interest from the Blue Chip company on the next block. Then, whilst on a business trip abroad with other like minded business men, he is contacted by the Blue Chip company who can offer him more money, more opportunities and a guaranteed place on their International team and more importantly he can do all of this without upping sticks and moving his family from their familiar surroundings and friends.

if Baines was to leave, it would hurt but I'd fully understand. He wouldn't be going as some sort of Judas character. He'd be going 'cos he knows his potential is being stifled here. At 27 any chances of medal, league and full International dreams will begin to wane - It's a simple case of , I've paid my dues - now it's time to say thank you, but I have to go.... If anything, for myself. Unlike Rooney who went purely for the glory and the money at such a young age. The sands of time are gathering pace for Leighton and if he stops to think about it too long, time will of run out. It reminds me of how Landon Donovan must be feeling right now...
