Leighton Baines

He was out injured at the time when we were playing halfway through the second Martinez season and one of the tv companies had him as a studio guest and he was dertermined then to voice his belief that he didn't know what way we were supposed to be playing. Now that is not something any player should be doing no matter who it is as manager, a manager btw who only ever spoke well of him.

He had an agenda very early on, and his third Martinez season outburst was NOT the act of someone sacrificing himself for the good of the team. It just wasnt. The lad had a massive axe to grind and it's pointless to think otherwise.
That's right Dave. We all nothing know, even Ron

A hero for doing what? He started bitching about matters in the winter of Martinez's second season, not when it all started going arse up.

That's a very nice revisionist history you have up there, but it doesn't hold water. Baines was not guaranteed a starting place anymore with Oviedo providing tough competition and he didn't like it one bit.

It was pure self concern that had him briefing the Echo and stirring up trouble halfway through that second season (NOT half way through the third season), not the love of a club he's never supported at any point in his life.

My God .... your something else... proper WUM and could start a row in an empty house... you literally agree with nobody ever. I find it impossible for someone to have an opinion that literally nobody else shares... all the time .

Baines wasn't guaranteed a starting place ? lol ...really? He has been a guaranteed place for the last 10 years lol. El fraudo even described him as "an Everton icon " didn't he?

Anyone that would suggest he was out of order speaking out is an idiot in my book. He has been a model pro all his career... and the fact he publicly spoke out for the only time in his whole career .,. Says more about the state of affairs rather than it does about him . He had enough all he did was speak honestly ... and the fans reacted to it . He's still a decent player and a LB should be well down on the list of priorities

Of all your contrarian stances this is the one that does you the greatest disservice. You have decided to berate a player for showing loyalty to the club rather than the man. If he had been as self - serving as you contend he would have left for Man Utd. when he had the chance. Instead he stayed proving himself to be a true Evertonian. All the contempt you direct at him for perceived disloyalty to a man who was damaging our club reflects poorly on yourself.

I take as I find mate. The lad to me has acted in an underhand manner and I'll have nothing good to say about any snide.

That's my PoV take it or leave it.

Baines is class.

Some people saying Galloway would have done more at LB...seriously based on what he could not get a game at West Brom this season, yes West Brom not Chelsea.

Fair enough I just find it annoying that you value loyalty to a failed manager with no previous or future connection to us over loyalty to Everton Football Club, the club we all support. Sad really.

Tbf don't think you need to knock Galloway, or any of our other potential leftback replacements, to rate and praise Baines, his performances and character stand by themselves.

Along with Jags, one of the most quietly consistent players we've had in recent years.

He was and is a better Evertonian than someone born and brought up a Kopite and then went onto Blackburn.

FFS that's just weird.

Not trying to knock the lad but some poster here used Galloway to degrade Bainsy which is not reasonable.
