Leighton Baines

Not good news

It is what it is Tim.

In all fairness, as poor as Oviedo was against Bournemouth, he's actually started to look sharper in the last few games.

City targeted his side but he looked stronger as the match wore on.

He's more than able back-up, but his problem is he needs two or three games to get into the swing of things and, usually, he ends up getting an injury just as he's looking sharp.

Agree though, Baines out is a big blow.

Luckily, they seem to have caught it early, so I wouldn't expect it to be too long term?

No coincidence our poor run of form started when we lost Baines. He provides balance to our side and a threat down the left, from his link up play, moving the ball forward, and delivering crosses into the box. Frustrating how weak our squad depth is at the moment.

One of my favourite players ... he said an awesome footballer with a decent touch and top quality passing.. still an excellent LB , just not as good as he once was

If they picked up something in the scan, I would suggest a recurrence and another month out?

Leighton Baines will miss Saturday's trip to Burnley after suffering a setback with his recent hamstring injury.

The Blues left-back has not featured since last month's 3-1 home win against Middlesbrough and, at his press conference on Thursday, boss Ronald Koeman confirmed the defender would not be in his matchday squad for the clash at Turf Moor.

Koeman said: “It is difficult because Leighton did the normal programme to come back - he had good sessions and played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors game against Wigan.

“But then the day after he was a little bit stiff and he went for a scan that showed he had a little setback.

“It is tricky. Maybe we need to wait longer to get him back to 100 per cent. It is difficult to say how long it will take but we will see.”

Aaron Lennon, meanwhile, has shaken off a knock and is available for selection after missing last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

Long-term absentees Muhamed Besic, Tyias Browning (both knee) andMatthew Pennington (hamstring) remain unavailable.

Think the sad reality is that age is catching up with Bainesy fast, we may not see that world class ability for much longer. Hope I'm wrong but this is starting mirror Pienaar's decline, injury after injury after injury.

He hasn't been a threat down the left since Pienaar was finished. The World Cup broke him and he hasn't been the same since. Galloway was excellent at left-back when played there and Oviedo never lets the side down. Simple fact is that Bianes isn't automatic first choice now.

Always loved how he got absolutely slated for the World Cup when he was tasked with defending two players at once. Never once was it mentioned not one player came back to help him out leaving him woefully exposed by 1-2 passes with nobody else to give him a hand.

He's done a hamstring... it happens ... he's a model pro and think he will play in the prem until at least 34

He is automatic first choice because he is light years ahead of the others you mentioned
