Leighton Baines

It's scary that we might need a new left back

Might?

We've needed one plus a centre half since the last World Cup. Both Baines and Jagielka came back from that changed players and neither has been anywhere near the required level to move us on since. Both fail to recover from any type of injury and both have fragile confidence.

Baines was excellent in the opening games of the season.

I suppose it's just a coincidence that our form completely nose-dived after his injury...

A shadow of the player we know and love. We need a new, reliable left back next season.

(and a new centre back, goalkeeper, centre midfielder, attacking midfielder, winger and second striker)

Yeah, I noticed the upshift in form on Saturday when we grabbed a point off relegation certainties Swansea.

If Koeman hands a contract extension to Baines you'll know he's taking the piss for £6M per year.
Aye. That said, I'd rather have Baines (I think) as backup than Oviedo (Baines is slightly less injury prone, but older..). But you're right, and Oviedo would be a fine backup to a top class left back, think Baines 2012 / 2013, he was world class. Problem is, being mid-table fodder, we'll never be able to attract anybody good enough to make a real difference.

I imagine he will get a new contract like.

He should be going for someone like Bertrand. And as a back up I cant believe we dont have anyone coming through the academy who can play there. Isn't Kenny a FB? Maybe he plays off both sides? And Galloway would be the stand in for me anyway.

We really need to be getting away from make do and mend...which was the apparent attraction of Moshiri...looking pretty laughable now like.

Yeah it's all turning a little sour in my opinion. No investment (a minus net spend) despite the owner having been here for 3/4 of a year and a full transfer window, no public progress on a stadium, making desperation moves in the transfer market for utter yard dogs such as Bolasie, etc.

We need a full clear out. Won't happen, but we should be moving at least 4 or 5 players from the squad in January, and again in the summer and replacing them with better.
