Normally a big fan of Ossie but had a poor game today.

Perhaps a subconscious nervousness about his eye made him hesitant in his challenges and his passing was unusually bad. However he was first sub so Martinez recognised it wasn't his day and changed it around.

He still has a great record of us winning matches when he is named captain - whether he is playing well or even on the pitch :-)

......I'm a big Osman fan, but Soton really pressed him down there last season and he was continually caught in possession. Different Manager now, of course, but I think they targeted Ozzie as critical to our play at that time. Might count for nothing this time around, but they had his measure on that occasion.

He's lightweight in possession and gets brushed off all the time so attacks break down, can't throw a tackle so he gets walked past and he's inconsistent to the point where even if he's semi decent one game, he'll almost certainly be anonymous the next.

That said, he's tailor made for a game like Southampton and Barkley looked horrendous against United, so he'll get the start and it's probably the right call.

But the thought of him in an Everton shirt for another three years makes my stomach turn.

Cant disagree with any of this!
 

I think his inconsistency in play belies his consistency in the appearances this season. He can be a very good player but his minutes really need to be limited.
