Saying that is like he'd stroll into just under half the leagues starting XI, i'm not so sure he would.

Fair enough, he'd be a starter for a few teams, but maybe not. You get the idea though, maybe not from what we've seen of Osman this season, but his career as a whole that would be a fair reflection, obviously we'd be looking to outgrow a player of his ability, but for most of his career we haven't.

I think he would. Another player criminally underrated because he's a bit slow and English. He's got better technique than the majority of the players in the teams below us. We wiped the floor with some teams last year and who was at the centre of the midfield that delivered us to the top 6 (even carrying Neville for long periods) Leon Osman. He hasn't started the season in form but then again who has (its never popular to criticise Mirallas or Fellaini is it) Jagielka hasn't looked at his best and neither has Baines so apart from Distin and Barkley I can't think of anyone who has played well in the first three games. Of course Osman is the natural scapegoat though.

Some people just don't accept Osman for what he is. He's a player who can control games through his passing releaisng other players into attacking positions. Fellaini could never do this yet this was ok because 'that's not his game'. When Osman is getting muscled off it by some 6 foot 7 grock though everyone complains as though that is somehow his game?

When hes good hes good, sadly i think his time is passing given the depth we have, be interesting to see how many yards he makes up with the ball at feet, which i think is his best attribute.

Overall the word id use for Ossie would be "Almost" - almost made a pass, almost scored a cracker, hed be a great player if he was about five inches taller and 4 stone hevier.

One thing that always surprised me was Moyes's tolerance for him giving the ball away or trying to run straight into a crowd of players who were easily going to out muscle him.

The Yak got sent to Blackburn for less.

spot on mate. ossie is a great lad and cops way to much flack on here

Why is it always in or out. Ace or useless.

To be honest im chuffed with the depth.

Form = a start - simples!

Very simply and well put.

In his career here, ossie has at times carried the team. He's had spells of being in very good form, he's had spells of being out of form and been a weak link in the team. He's also spent large spells of his career playing out of posistion, sacrificing his own game for the good of the team, at our strongest he's bided his time and sat for spells on the bench....

I can't believe the stick he gets on here tbh. We'd of been a weaker team/squad without him these last 10 yrs.
(And Yes I'd say he'd be starting week in week out for all the teams from 10th down)

Christ, it sounds like people defending an abusive partner, you just don't understand him like I do. Comparing him with Felli is laughable, take a look at their stats this season, he's grim right now, his technique isn't good enough to make up for being the worst athlete in the prem, time to give him a massive swerve

Rubbish, he's started the season really poorly (albeit playin out of posistion) and with the new signings and everybody fit should be on the bench but he will hit form at some point and will make some important contributions this season, even if that's from the bench.

Show the lad some respect and be greatfull for the fact that, for the first time in years it's looking like we actually have a squad, where the drop in quality outside the first 11 is far less than previous yrs.

He's a complete passenger right now and has been since Christmas, he doesn't pick himself, but its his responsibility to turn his form around, hes got my repsect as a professional, but honestly, i'm tired of watching him get driblled past and dwelling on the ball, and being able to walk into the side, that causes frustration, I haven't seen many attacks on his character, but the attacks on his woeful performances are fully justified in my opinion

This all day, to be honest I recken Moyes use to look at how they done in training all week as well and how they done on the pitch.

As said the start of this season he has been woefull and should be on the bench off form. However he's played these first 3 games due to Gibson being injured so I'd hardly say he's walking into the team. Such a myth that he was useless since Xmas. Had a bad run of form then picked up again! Lets face it who would of replaced him last season? Neville? Hitz?

We'v now got Barry and Gibson, with Mcarthy backing those two up. Then Barkley in the ACM role with probably Osman backing him up. He's an ACM not CM so hopefully with the additions he won't have to feature there unless injury crisis happens.

He'll prove his worth as part of the squad as he does every year, or after every time he's had a bad run of form.

Other than the City game he was dreadful, to have the most dribbled past CM in the league in your team if you are chasing top 4 is unacceptable, you'd hope that was the intention in 'bidding' for Leroy fer. Many of us wanted Barkley over Osman when his form dried up, with Felli restored to CM, the Arsenal game and this season has proved that would have been a viable option, hence the frustration directed at Osman. I have no problem making a contribution as back up while his contract winds down, but if he plays like he is and he's first choice, then I don't think people can complain if he gets criticised

All players can come in for criticism when they play badly and he has been poor so far. He still hasn't been our worst player though (Mirallas and Jelavic) but he gets by far the most stick.

Good squad player, by no means useless. Should be back up for Barkley at the moment
