Sven across his career

Managerial honours[edit]
Degerfors IF[81]
IFK Göteborg[81]
Benfica[81]
Roma[81]
Sampdoria[81]
Lazio[81]

So two of the four could legitimately be judged as fairly good judges of football ability.
Eriksson stopped trying as England manager around 2004.

Interesting - Osman has played U-16 England and then had to wait until he was 31 for his senior cap. Wasn't picked for u-19s or u-21s.

All those lost years where @mythbuster knew he was boss and the idiots in the football world were utterly oblivious

Didn't he have a bad injury around 19-20 that could have ended his career before it began?

1 in 7 goal ratio, not bad when you think Gerrard had a 1 in 4 and Lampard had a 1 in 3.5 and the both took all the free kicks and penalties but Osman never.

Not what you'd call stellar though, is it. Even more damning in the light of his 1 in 10 assists.

He's had two caps (one against an absolute minnow) in an era that has seen the likes of Neville and Danny Mills get 50.

Plenty of balloons on here seem to think it's by chance or that he has been the victim of incredible poor judgement, rather than accept that he is a pretty poor attacking midfielder and has the upper body strength of a toddler.

Well like I said if you class Gerrard and Lampard as the benchmark he's done well when you remove their set pieces which Osman has never taken for us.

The 1 in 10 assists stat seems a bit high (or low??) but I'm not sure how it matches up against the likes of the other two? Or indeed others like Arteta or Scholes say.

As for the England caps, well it's subjective isn't it really. Youre comparing defenders with a midfield player for a start which is unfair, and his career has spand a period of time were you'd be guaranteed a call up if you were sat on the bench for a top four club and never even got a game, it was a closed shop to a lot of players and not just Osman.

Did you know one of Evertons all time legends never got a single cap for his country..

Yes Doug he was full,of injury problems found out it was because he had one leg longer than the other so special football boot was made to even it up, I read his autobiography a present from my son, groaned a bit on recieving it , but really enjoyed it - A great servant to our club sent out on loan too long imo!
