Made the second. Cracking well weighted pass at the end

That’s something we’ve not seen for a long time. A full back (admittedly not a world class one) back pedalling towards goal and not sure whether to show the player to the outside and inside. In the end they always end up twisting around and falling over. He’ll be erratic but that’s not always a bad thing when running at people.

Temper the hype. Might get minutes initially then as players return to fitness he can be shielded a bit rather than played out of form.

I mean, people in this very read today are saying he's not good enough

He had a grace period of a few hours

People have seen a few clips of a practise match and want him to start against Fulham.

The reality is he never pulled any trees up in League One last season and scored a few goals in about 40 appearences ( Majority off the bench ) and people think he will step up to the Premier league.

....Anthony Gordon struggled for game time on loan & was sold shortly afterwards for £40m. I recall Barclay being on the bench for much of his loan time (Warnock said he ‘couldn’t trust him’) but not long after he won an England cap.

it’s easy to dismiss the chances of a youngster as the odds are stacked against and not many can make the step-up. What we can say is Dobbin had an opportunity to impress in pre-season and he might have grasped his. Good on him.

Dobbin has given himself a chance of breaking through, that’s all any of us can say at this point.

Sometimes players have an iffy loan but still go on to be good players

I wouldn't be deciding whether Lewis Dobbin should play for us based on last season's loan spell

There have been players who have gone on loan and been terrific (like Duffy when he went to Yeovil) and it didn't work out for them here regardless of that

Heck, Simms tore it up at every club he was loaned to and many were happy to sell him

If anyone has made their mind up on a player following one loan spell then they're way off

I was gonna mention Barkley at Leeds. There are many variables and sometimes been in the right situation. There is an opportunity for everyone at our football club presently considering the lack of genuine quality at our disposal. I hope gets and grabs the opportunity. If he gets one

Dude has pace, pace always hurts, always a great weapon.

Even if hes 'only' ever good enough to become a rotation option at e.g right wing...it saves us alot of money.

Could do with others like Welch, Cannon, Tyrer and Onyango for example doing the same.

Still looks raw in a lot of ways, but he's got enough about him that you can see he could go on and have a decent career

Walcott had a similar stature and that sort of huge pace and tbh he never really lost that rawness to his game, so it isn't to say that Dobbin couldn't carve out a decent career even if he never polishes that technique etc

Having said that, despite him doing enough in pre-season to get noticed, we'll have McNeil, Danjuma, Iwobi and probably another new signing in the wide areas this season so game time will probably be a big ask. More likely is that he'll get a good loan and next summer after the departures of Danjuma and (probably) Iwobi, that'll be when he really gets a chance
