…yep, certainly leapfrogged Cannon which is a bit of a surprise but as we know from our discussions in the Youth thread, he has looked a class act at times.

He was always "ahead of Cannon" at youth level to me, even though Cannon scored a lot of goals.

It sort of goes to show, that the best young players dont get sent out on loan if the coach can see a role for them.

…..yeeeeees, which is the point I (try) and regularly make.

It does come down to a fine dividing line, though. In a few pre-season games and training, Dyche has made a decision that he won’t use Cannon & he ‘might’ keep Dobbin. Shows how crucial this period is for a youngster.

That is good if true. It goes to show that sometimes we can spot good characteristics from players. Maybe we as fans can come together and apply for Thelwell’s position 😛

But in all seriousness, I can see why Dobbin is being considered over Cannon. You can teach finishing and some of the more technical aspects of the game. You can’t teach vision, pace and intelligence on the pitch. Some of Dobbins runs were very impressive and kind of reminiscent of a Theo Walcott.

I do hold out hope that he is genuinely being considered and these aren’t just honeyed words to appease the fans. But I’ve heard it all before.

…he’ll only be considered because the manager thinks he might use him. It’s a good step if he’s still here when the window closes but lots of this is down to Dobbin grasping the opportunity.

By the way, I think you can improve finishing but you can’t teach it.

100 percent up to Dobbin agreed. But we do need to test some of these guys out every now and then as opposed to dumping them to the wayside without even giving them a look. We can’t afford to run the club the way it has been in recent years.

That's cos Cannon is a wholehearted striker and Dyche obviously expects to have a frontline in place, that another loan will benefit Cannon more.
Where as I expect Dyche is probably looking at Dobbin as more of a winger, and his pace at this time could benefit us more..

Obviously confident on a few strikers coming in..

To be fair, I think Cannon is currently recovering from a slight hamstring pull.

But, as you say, it is a crucial period for catching the eye and it shows how luck with injuries at a certain moment can potentially affect a player's whole career (in any sport).

Give the lad some premier league experience. He's looked fairly bright when he's played, and he surely can't be any worse than what we have. The amount of players we're sending out on loan or selling, and the lack of any incoming transfer activity, it seems like we're going to struggle to fill a bench this season! Having Dobbin in and around the first team and getting 15/20 minutes regularly at premier league level will be good for his development.
Agreed. The reality of Evertons transfer policy in view of the clubs, financial challenges is where Everton are.

The days of Big spending are it would seem history for the foreseeable

Reality bites, and for me Everton need a couple of strikers and a few midfielders to cover Duke, Gana and Iwobi, in January, and a CB if Tarks or Branthwsite are injured.

There is 5 weeks in the transfer window, tine for some , slick deals.

in summary, the goals must come this season, 3 seasons on the run ,struggling and if this is not fixed, it's inviting trouble.

Hope eternal, UTFTs!
