Live music - what have you seen?

I really like Muse but this morning, for the first time, I went on to buy tickets, looked at the price and decided against. And I'm reckless with money and spend a lot on these events.

That says a LOT about how high the costs have gone. £110 for standing at an arena!!

Same here mate, I`ve been waiting to see Depeche Mode again for years, but at £350 a pop, for the one and only UK gig this year, it just wasn`t doable.

Concerts and merchandise are where all the money is now, as they make next to nothing on downloads - hence the prices.

Have you ever been to Nashville, I was there last September it was brilliant, bands on every bar from 10am till late, and every musician and singer where excellent, I’m not a country fan and there is something for everyone

You won’t be disappointed mate
Yes , I was there for 2 nights in 2014 and I’ve been waiting to go back since then.

I never really spend more than 30 on gigs. There are too many variables that can ruin it to justify more than that, for me. Stand next to an annoying person and it can pretty much ruin the whole thing

Muse at least also bring an amazing stage and pyros but I do totally take your point.

They are my favourite band of all time, but I am simply not in a position to afford tickets right now

Don't get me wrong Muse are also one of my favourites historically and their shows are spectacular.

I'm starting to see how much more value for money festival day tickets are when its a band you like headlining though - Reading Festival for example you can see The Killers and a whole day of music for around the same price as a Muse arena gig. I'm going to hold out for Muse playing the likes of Reading, TRNSMT next year when I can definitely justify the cost because you get loads of other bands too

Started with Slade about 74-75 and finished with Sneaker Pimps about 97 ish. Way too many in between, from Eric's to thw Haigh and everywhere inbetween. Tbh I've seen some one offs Clash with the Specials, the Jam & the Chords, Killing Joke at the Warehouse etc, but I've seen some absolute gash as well, Wonderstuff, Jamiroquai (on freebies).
But, support live music 👊🏻
Surprised you didn't mention Joy Division

Can’t argue with that logic at all. Target all the bands you like at a festival and it’s a much more cost effective of way of seeing the major acts.

I forgot a few when thinking back on this:

Hum (89, 90, 91, 92)
Poster Children (same as above)
Swervedriver (95)
The Coctails (93)
Ken Vandermark (96 or so)
Calexico (99)

Chanced upon box of old ticket stubs while clearing out some stuff from the garage. Seems to be mostly from 80s to 10s. Had a quick look and genuinely wouldn't have remembered loads of these gigs otherwise - substantial list incoming.

I'm going to show off and list the bands that I can remember meeting backstage

The Damned
Buzzcocks
The Ramones
Motorhead
Wonderstuff
All about eve
Jesus and Mary chain
Dr Feelgood
Eskimo Joe
Jebediah
The Cramps
Pop will eat itself
The Charlatans
Voice of the beehive
Neds atomic dustbin
New order
The Mission

Jesus Jones I met backstage at Reading festival. Chatting with Al Jaworski (bass player) and managed to mix our pints up. His had an acid tab in it so I ended up tripping off my face for the one and only time.

My missus loves him and I got dragged to the Parr Hall in Warrington to see him.

It turned out to be a really good laugh.

He`s so old now, he had to keep sitting down inbetween songs to take a " nice little rest " lol
I saw him years ago when his album Hearsay had been a mega hit. He had a king sized bed on stage with him, when he sang "If you are here tonight" he invited someone out the audience to join him on the bed. 😆

A few highlights:

Soundgarden
Nine Inch Nails
Pantera
Slayer
Green Day
Doves
Badly Drawn Boy
Queens of the Stone Age
Spiritualized
Napalm Death
Electric Six
Foals
....And you will know us by the trail of dead
The sex pistols
Sting and the police
The Beat
Death Cab for Cutie
The Charlatans
The Flaming Lips
The Dandy Warhols

And loads more I've forgotten due to being meh on the day

Saw The Hives at a gig in Bristol (in the middle of their tour with Arctic Monkeys) and they were fantastic. So much so that I have got tickets for the UK tour.

Also want to see The Darkness but not sure funds can stretch at the moment.
