I think there's a mentality problem. In Moyes' time here we haven't won at Old Trafford, Highury/Emirates or Stamford Bridge - let alone our well-known Anfield problem. That's really, really poor and for me it comes down to our tactics and our attitude.
Hmmmm........ that wouldn't ahve anythignto do with the fact that they are good teams and spend about a billion times more than us would it?

Only one of those examples involves someone talking in the press. And where's the proof that that was what caused us missing out on pens?

There can never be proof, but just like with John Terry's racism when he was 'proven' innocent, we all know what happened.

I'm pretty sure there's more evidence out there of Jelavic scoring goals than there is of Gibson and Osman showing any glimmer of creativity. Our build-up play is laborious and predictable, which makes it easier to defend against - the thread discussing the Executioner's Bong article explained it very well.

We need 2 or 3 more midfielders (one of which should be primarily a right side specialist), Felli needs to sit in CM with Mirallas at 10 and Osman and Gibbo should become squad players rather than starters. That would be progress.

Do you seriously think that Gibbo and Ossie will become faster of thought and more accurate in their passing just because a more expensive striker plays in front of them? Do me a favour.

Gibson is fine, the problem is when Ossie plays CM alongside him he tries to play like Gibson and he can't. It's not a dig on him, it's just not how he should play and it's def not when he's most effective. He's an AM that should be played forward for short darts into the box to either have a rip or look for a nice through ball. I know this all comes off as wank armchair talk but after you've watched him after all his years here, it's painfully obvious where he's most effective. He has a hard time shielding the ball well, his tackling is suspect and he has a hard time if the tempo is slow, which is how Gibbo plays. Again, it's not a knock on him, they just don't compliment each other well...Pienaar doesn't either but he's frankly better at protecting the ball and slowing the tempo down doesn't seem to tie him in knots like it does Ossie. But then you pull him away from Baines if you do that. Felli and Gibson are a good pairing but we're not using it enough, IMHO.

Sounds a little bit kopitey if I'm being honest mate.

By all means get in the ref's ear during the game. But mouthing off in the media serves no purpose.

Eh? I'm not expecting us to beat them regularly. Of course teams which spend far, far, far more than us will, more often than not, get the better of us.

But to not win a single game at any of those grounds in over 10 years is damn poor. It's not like we've had a number of close 3-2 losses where we were denied in the last minute. There's a very clear theme in those games - we accept we're the inferior side to the point that a point is seen as the best we can do. Far too much respect shown in these games and sometimes against sides that actually aren't all that.

We didn't hear any of this talk a few weeks back when he was playing well did we?

I think it's clear Gibson needs surgery. On the other hand, we have forwards who might move around but they dont move away from defenders. Two forwards we need this summer.

Agree. It's so frustrating watching us sometimes. We have some very good players yet we don't really take control of things as we should a lot of the time. We have the ability to do so but too often we settle for "controlling" the opposition instead of letting them worry about us.

You seem to be forgetting that we won have won today were it not for another outrageous referring decision. We've also deserved to win at Arsenal and Chelsea numerous times.

Say it sounds 'kopitey' all you want but we had about 10 penalties turned down that season.

A) we won at stamford bridge in the cup.

And B) There's been a few quite close games. The 2-2 where pienaar chipped almunia, the 2-2 in dalglish's first game, the 3-3 at Stamford bridge, the 0-0 at Stamford bridge where jo missed eight sitters, the game today where we had a perfectly good goal disallowed.

Your first part is right, it was a wrong decision by the referee and it should have counted, plain and simple.

That's not the full story though. Our performance generally was symptomatic of many, many away days against the teams I've mentioned.

Surely you can't use "we've deserved to win a few times" as a defence to our attitude shown in these games? Yes, we probably should have won some of those games. But that's my whole point. Close but no cigar, and that really sums us up at the moment. Quite good, not good enough.

I want better than that, and I think we are able to achieve better than that. Which is why I don't count today's performance as a good one. We didn't force the issue anywhere near enough, against a mediocre Liverpool side. Of course I'm disappointed by that.

We can split hairs about those games in question (cup game was on penalties) but this is exactly what I mean. Glorious failures. We're too happy to think these are very good results to look beyond that and say, actually, we should be able to win the odd game against these teams away from home.

Am I massively chewed off by today's decision, and other decisions down the years? Too right I am.

But I think our problems run deeper than refereeing decisions. We're too happy to see a point as a good result in these games and it winds me up something rotten seeing us play like that, when you consider the ability we possess in our team.

Don't agree with that mate tbh. For at least the first 6-7 years of moyes reign we were no where near as good as those teams. We shouldn't of been expected to win those games. Not many teams do. Apart from the freak 1-0 win back against the walls. Yes over the last few years we'v got closer in terms of quality but also don't underestimate the fact that unlike your wigan's readings ect the top teams have always took us very seriously which leads to full strengh teams not being complacent.

We'v also been very unlucky at times over the years in those games.

Oh come on.

You said "none of those games were even close, we've never even had glorious failiures" I said "well I think there's been a few quite close games", and you've replied see "we're happy with close games and draws ffs, talk about low expectations."

It's debating on the level of "Mississippi is the name of a river. How many letters are in it?".

Communicating badly and then getting smug when misunderstood is not intelligence.
