Liverpool council threaten legal action over Merseyside derby

Spurs v arsenal is early ko and being shown by a different broadcaster will be interesting to see how this one pans out......tickets on sale 2nd jan so assume they will have to be quick......

Wouldn't surprise me if they make us kick of at 10.45am FFS

So its ok to play this fixture at 4pm on a Sunday or at 7.45pm on a Tuesday night, but 5.30pm on a Saturday just cannot happen? I don't live locally but surely it can't make that much of a difference, or cause such a big headache for the police. I mean, we've already played Chelsea and Arsenal at the same time slot this season. And they're more likely to cause trouble. Plus people will be on the ale no matter what the kick off time.

Its backward thinking like this, pre-empting trouble, that creates a negative attitude towards football fans. A bit like how booze is readily available and being guzzled down by fans in their seats at rugby and cricket matches, but is forbidden within football grounds, well at least in your seat. [Poor language removed] social class profiling is what it is.

Are they forgetting that we live in the same city? There is probably a Liverpool living next door to you or in the car next to you at lights. Hey you know that car youve just have way to at the junction? He supports Liverpool. Or do you know the old lady who you helped up the stairs at the train station? She supports Liverpool. The point Im making is we don't fight any day of the week, we drink together and we argue our points in the pub but we don't kill each other. Why on earth would it be an issue? Yes on match day we are passionate and we despise each other but we aren't exactly gonna go into town and be like "Liverpool are over there, have you got the shank?" It's silly.

Its not so much about lads being on the ale and causing bother, its more about the fact that police will be needed in town Saturday night as normal. But that being said, I have been at some barmy night games between Bristol City and Rovers, when the KO time seemed to have been selected to almost maximise trouble!

The "best" was an evening kick off, on the Friday night immediately before Christmas day, (the next Monday), when all the office workers in the centre finished at 12, all the factories the same around the ground, and there was basically a 6 hour pub crawl before the match. Was like Baghdad.

Wonder if @ste d' indica remembers?

Given that I have a city centre business I ought to be well qualified to comment. When The RS are at home there are loads of them in the City Centre (mostly out of towners coming to the city for the weekend - yes, your Spanish and Irish and Norwegians) - when we're at home there's hardly any visitors coming to our game. So, stating the bleeding obvious, with their lot only getting a few thousand tickets there's going to be no extra problems to police in the city as there won't be many extra people in the city on the night. It's truly a non-issue and someone needs to make it perfectly plain to the council that's the case.

I honest to god thought was an urban myth, made up by us lot naturally! So it really happens, like, to sample the Liverpool match day experience in a Liverpool pub??

Oh sure - you can hear them on Friday, Saturday, Monday - whatever floats ya boat eh? I'm sure they do go the game but just saying there are plenty of them in town pre-match.

I presume most Blues can remember the shameful treatment of fans (90% plus Blues) pre-match at Goodison when the police come round the Spellow and other pubs forcing us all inside citing "public safety" - well in my humble opinion there's nothing "SAFE" about forcing 200+ people inside the pub just to manage the situation.

Its like a flaming pilgramage ffs. Which kind of fits the profile I guess.
