Liverpool council threaten legal action over Merseyside derby

It's rubbish to punish the vast, vast majority of well behaved fans. Next we'll be saying people can't leave the house after midnight because more crime happens then and it's hard for the police to stop. Ridiculous.

True that. And also, It is Sky/BT or whoever shifting the KO around. Not us. Not the Police. Not the council. Not that lot.

So play it, and any additional police costs or bother cos of THEIR decision to shift it, they can pick up the tab ffs.

Don't the club pay for the policing on matchday?

So the rozzers are saying, "You have to pay us but we don't actually want to do anything".

What's wrong with a good old fashioned 3pm Saturday KO?
My sentiments exactly. It isn't good for TV and others, however it is my favourite time for any match.

Unfortunately, the good ol' days are quickly dwindling away due to the influence of TV money and foreign interests.

For example, all Premier League teams are now competing in the FA Cup 3rd round on a Sunday or later. Ourselves on a Tuesday night. What?!

Another example is the FA Cup final being played past 5pm on a day where other Premier League matches take place.

What was wrong with maintaining the sanctity of the FA Challenge Cup final? Before you know it, we'll be playing on Friday and Sunday evenings.

First someone on here tells me, he doesn't think it's right for me to be getting tickets for the derby as I'm not local.

Now the police doesn't want me in the city centre after the match.

Ffs, logs out and starts supporting Hereford Town.

To a degree yes. It is isn't about the Police not wanting to police the situation, but rather I see it as if they wish to manage it correctly.

Merseyside Police will charge the club a standard rate according to the staffing required for the category of the match. This is set before hand.

As it based on the category (which is pre set) the cost will not be adjusted regardless of the time of the kick off. It is merely on the opposition.

A match at that time will most probably occur higher costs, due to a higher risk based on alcohol, yet they will not be able to account for this.

So, they will wish to push it earlier so it is safer and they get better value for money. They'll get paid the same amount, but less risks.

What? By their reckoning, I probably shouldn't have seen The Eagles or ZZ Top then, as I'm not American.

You should name and shame the guilty party here.

Whoever said this obviously hasn't enjoyed belg's company for beers. Shame on them.

SHAME ON THEM.

Given that I have a city centre business I ought to be well qualified to comment. When The RS are at home there are loads of them in the City Centre (mostly out of towners coming to the city for the weekend - yes, your Spanish and Irish and Norwegians) - when we're at home there's hardly any visitors coming to our game. So, stating the bleeding obvious, with their lot only getting a few thousand tickets there's going to be no extra problems to police in the city as there won't be many extra people in the city on the night. It's truly a non-issue and someone needs to make it perfectly plain to the council that's the case.

It's not the extra but the number of football fans in general who will be emotionally invested in the game. - the vast majority of Saturday night drinkers actually won't have been to the game but loads will still be football fans. Add to that the amount of people who have been to the game and are wound up, and maybe a dodgy refereeing decision in liverpool's favour or a terrible performance by us and yeah there will be more kick offs than normal, ruining the night out of non football fans who want to enjoy their night out without getting caught up in it.

That said, the atmosphere will be great so I hope it doesn't get moved!

I am very curious about this because in the past I'm sure council and police were consulted on sensitive games before the tv fixtures were announced. Have sky and bt now essentially got the power to bypass this process? Worrying if so - they already have too much.

If we had to play west ham 48 hours after playing hull I don't think we'd be happy. They've just shifted the Friday - Monday cycle to Saturday - Tuesday because of the new year round of fixtures. In our favour I reckon.

Heard a whisper that the council/police are kicking up a fuss over this to make a political point over budget cuts, and how an evening kick off will somehow stretch budgets. Whole thing is a stunt because it'll be 3 months before the General Election & both the Labour-run LCC & Merseyside Police have ulterior motives for making this an issue.

I understand the implications on ourselves and the reasons. As you mention, looking simply at Everton is probably is beneficial in some ways.

Yet, playing on the Thursday then I think Sunday would be acceptable. Not ideal, but okay. It would also keep some of the tradition of the Cup.

However, the Premier League have kicked up a fuss and the cycle as you've mentioned has been altered. Sunday-Monday-Tuesday for PL teams.

Personally, I think it sets another poor precedent as more cup games will be realigned to meet the interests of the league.

But hey, maybe I am an ol' traditionalist who enjoys some rigidity in stuff like this. FA Cup 3rd round on a Tuesday just doesn't feel right.
