Liverpool Echo & Everton

Best part was them telling us we should be lucky we are getting any Everton coverage at all because Liverpool brings in all the international hits.

Really??? Given the move to Oldham of some of their operations you'd think they'd be a little more sensitive to locals.

Is that it then ?

"We’ve been accused of bias and loving Liverpool FC more than Everton. Not only is that untrue, it would be ludicrous, outrageous and unacceptable if it were.

And that, in a nutshell, is the nub of this whole damage limitation charade by Thompson.

Obviously in denial with his trite justifications of what is manifestly true. The pi*spoor article "Everton 'where they should be' in 11th" is a microcosm of The Echo's attitude to us. Its as though the over-50s on the sports team let the "youngsters who can do the figures" peddle what they like, massaging a glut of statistics into an overlong rambling diatribe to justify their headline. (The hyperventilating gasbag Walsh is an example of this.) The author of the article in question however, Beesley, is obviously fire- proof from rebuke by his editorial managers who, regardless of the statistical diarrhoea splashed over the piece, manage to allow him to bow-tie the piece in a cheap, hectoring, "cop for this then" manner. They must think the arrogant gobsh is the way to go. Evertonians are more than well aware of the club's limitations....Christ knows, the situation has been going on long enough. We don't wear rose tinted glasses...the realism we have is one of our many distinguishing characteristics that set us apart. It seems our 'local' paper feels the need to educate us about this...without of course, pi*sing on its own chips by directing its vitriol to the Club.

@MickCityTalk: I'd urge EFC fans keen to talk about the Echo's Blues coverage to call @PeteCityPrice from 10pm. He's got the Echo Editor on the show.

is it the main editor or the sports one? There's no point if it's John Thompson. He's made it pretty clear that in his opinion there's nothing wrong with the coverage and it's all a witch hunt by a minority group of militant blues.

For instance, when we restructured our newsroom in January we appointed an Everton FC editor as well as a Liverpool FC editor even though Reds’ international following will inevitably deliver us more web views and consequently more revenue.

This quote.

Is this supposed to be a big achievement?

In some ways they are worse, they should actually know better.
They're as crass as that organ. They portray Liverpool (the city) as a gangster-ridden, drug-taking, scam-making, tan-faking cess pit.

Maybe they haven't had the same treatment meted out to that other paper because of the way they've backed LFC to the hilt?

Well they have been called out big time by the other half of the city's football base and they are currently wriggling on the end of the hook they made for themselves. They've neglected or insulted Evertonians for years and now the reckoning is here.

Pressure needs maintaining on this lot. Even now in their 'apology' they're taking the piss with the emphasis on on 'some Evertonians'. I'd urge anyone registered on that site to get on the comments section of that Thompson piece to tell them what they think of their patronising rubbish for a kick off.

Make no mistake though, they are struggling for space now; backed into a corner over their 100% backing for an Everton FC regime that's determined to see Everton remain trophyless for decades to come.

The main editor Alastair Machray

Any media outlt that retrospectively edits into a meeting podcast, input from people not at the meeting, needs to be ignored and shut down etc. Has the trademark grubby little fingers of the world's best Evertonian all over it, that escapade.

Would the whole situation have been better if they had come out and said the lack of news and the pro board etc reporting is simply to get actual news come from the club as a mouth piece? Somewhat a double deal, club gives them latest news to run off for the evening and echo don't question things.

To be anyway that would at least settle the situation down a little bit than complete denial
