Going forward Digne should come in for Godfrey but would like us to keep tight at the back on atleast one of the fullback areas and for me Holgate should stay in long term.
I think a big part of our success has been the two fullbacks not bombing forward and being caught out on the counter.
Digne offers too much going forward to leave out but for me Coleman can be replaced when you consider his lack of end product.
Whenever I say things like that to Mrs Bri I get a blank look in return....he’s terrific, I don’t think there’s a better LB in the league and I only said to Mrs Eggs last week: “I’m amazed City haven’t tried to sign Digne.”
Really hope he signs the deal, it’s no forgone conclusion.
But you are telling someone in a winning back 4 that has only conceded one pen in 3 games that they are not good enoughIt’s hardly “mucking about” to bring the best left back in the league back into the team at left back is it?
Old school was the back 4 on a pendulum....if one bombs forward the other should sit but that didn’t happen so much under Martinez in particular. We need attacking full-backs, the trick is getting the balance right elsewhere. It’s largely why Godfrey has to play CB.

You hold the jersey until you have a bad game
No one should be a guaranteed starter

But when do you drop somebody playing well, for somebody who's not really gonna be fully up to speed for a couple of games at least? No you’re not though, because Godfrey isn’t a left back and he knows he isn’t. And the last game Digne played we won anyway.
I would imagine there's a reasonable chance that by the time Digne is ready to play, Godfrey might not be playing that well and the defence might have conceded more than one goal. If that's not the case then I'll be with you, if he's had a dozen or so good games at left back and the defensive unit looks watertight then keep him in. I wouldn't be prepared to leave out a player who has proven their quality many times over because their deputy had a couple of solid games though. But when do you drop somebody playing well, for somebody who's not really gonna be fully up to speed for a couple of games at least?
Could he ever adopt his naughty moniker? Maybe a step too far.We do massively over-rate our players....but he is the greatest left back, the universe has ever seen.
Since Baines.
