Depends.

If faking illness etc, then yes - I will blame him.

That type of attitude is indicative of problems right through the club for a very long time.

It's a direct criticism I had of Brands, signing players who are on the come down when they come to Everton. No hunger. Played at a higher level.

Of course, all the above is just complete guesswork.

To me that looks like Chelsea have tapped him up and Digne has saw his chance. As another poster said earlier, make an example of someone and you can lose all their loyalty.

If it helps, try not believing a thing Benitez says.

That's the thing isn't it?

It's all ifs, and maybes.

Because of that we probably can't be too conclusive either side - despite the temptation.

Very valid point.

If he's off in January, you can't come out and call him a snake etc.

It's not in Benitez' interest to fall out with one of our best players mate.

I'm sure he'd rather have Digne playing.

But team > individual and if Benitez has reason then he has reason.
Benitez acting against his own interest in a power game with one of his players? Why would he do that?

Except for his record of doing it basically everywhere he's been.

Don't think he'd need to.

This isn't Oumar Niasse.
This is what he does though, he attempts to turn the fanbase against his "enemies" at the club. He did it at Newcastle, he did it at the RS. He's like those people at work who spend hours of every day running down anyone that they don't like with a waterfall of snidey comments to anyone who will listen to them, he's just not very nice.

He falls out with good players everywhere he's been because he's got an enormous ego and enjoys confrontation. Even top level players like Alonso and Terry. - so there is precedent. This whole thing is his fault because he hung the player out to dry publicly and kept playing others who had been far far worse.

The player is within his rights to want out because he was publcily humiliated by a manager who has our worst record in 20+ years. If my boss is struggling and decides to try and let others take the fall, then I want out too. What does Digne owe to Benitez, or us for that matter?

I'm no huge fan of the player because he had been average for a while, but his treatment was nothing more than pathetic attempt by the manager to take the blame away from himself. Digne was scapegoated by a manager who can't accept responsibility. The man is an utter joke.

He deflects no doubt.

Said that about him before appointing.

He probably is a bit of an arse for a boss. People like Steven Gerrard has said as much. He demands constantly, very rarely praises etc.

Its how players react to that - some will positively, others negatively.

Generally those bosses are the ones who win titles.

I'd disagree by saying he's not very nice - maybe not in football but *looks around nerviously* - I reckon he's a top bloke outside of football. Him and his wife have done some very good things for the city.

I know mate. He also won trophies at those clubs too.

But a lot of us have been calling for a manager who'll pull rank on this team of spineless so and sos.

Most of the fan base agree there's an attitude problem with the team. Ancelotti said so, as did Seamus Coleman.

To address that, you're going to have to confront a few.

Imagine 20 something multi millionaire footballers having egos.

Maybe Digne felt braver than most knowing we had no other left back, and his transfer away would be to a more competitive club.

Well, nice or not, if we carry on as we are on the pitch and he keeps jibbing off our best players he'll relegate us. Whatever he is doing right now is not working and certainly isn't going to win us any titles.
