2021/22 Lucas Digne

Why do I feel that we’re gonna get spunked on with Lucas transfer fee, we haven’t got a clue when selling players and holding out for the fee we want, look at Kean’s transfer, loaned him to the richest club in the world. I don’t think we’ll get more than £15m because of the idiots running the show.

Premier league only

2018/19 33starts (2sub)4 goals / 4 assists
2019/20 35starts 7 assists
2020/21 30starts 7 assists
2021/22 13starts 0 assists

Those assist numbers are quality until this season where he has clearly been asked to stay back.

If we had another Digne on the right instead of Coleman for the past 3 seasons then we'd be flying.

The "Digne has been poor for 18months / 2 years" comments are utter nonsense.

All the stats say otherwise...its only this season under Benitez.
Let me play devils advocate on the assist stats. 7 assists last season for a full back is a good number, agreed, however, how many of these were from taking a set piece? Off the top of my head I know that first game of the season 1-0 against Spurs he took the free kick.

Right now we’ve seen Gordon take a perfect free kick from a similar position last game and Townsend and Gray have delivered some good balls in this season too whilst general consensus has been that Digne’s delivery got worse.

Point is, if most of his assists are free kicks and corners, they’re pretty easily replaced imo

If I recall, Baines is the top scoring full back in premier league history but that’s because he took all our pens and most of our free kicks for a decade or so, I bet Coleman scored more in open play though…

He still rates in the top left backs for tackles, passes, key passes in open play etc in the league. Has done since we signed him.

But he's leaving so he's gash. The everton way.

About to throw some 22 year old in the deep end too. Good old Rafatolla

Rebel without a place.

Welcome Vitaliy.
Have you ever seen the Ukrainian lad play Dave? I think it may be a bit premature to be celebrating yet. You do know what league he’s coming from do you? Not a great standard there and you bemoan the Dutch and French leagues as ‘farmer’s leagues’ . He may be great for all either of us know, equally he may not be.

Why are people fuming over Digne leaving. This team has done absolutely nothing since he signed. He’s been apart of this s*** Ouse group of players for the last few seasons and his best days are behind him. If we sell him for £30m/35m then that is quite abit of wriggle room regarding FFP. Also would this group of people moaning have the same opinion if it was Carlo trying to sell him, or are you all just going to moan all season about everything Rafael does?.

I would hazard a guess that he has been thinking about leaving since we fell to an arse end of last season and then Carlos leaving. The 'project' he signed up for hasnt worked and he's probably looking at those around him when he's on international duty and thinking this is his final move.
Benitez system doesnt suit him but he's also been for me very poor this season, and thats not just down to the tactics.
Good time for both sides to part way.

Actually, if you dig deeper in 2020/21 season, all his 7 assists came in 2020. It means for about 20 games last season, he registered 0 assists. And that is with DCL and Richarlison fit. But if you also look into ours tactics for the second half of last season, we were playing very deep defensive, counter attacking football under Carlo.

Not saying he didn't regress under Benitez, he certainly did. Under Benitez, he became less solid defensively and we've seen him allowing a lot of crosses in. What I'm saying is that the signs were there before.

Aside from that, I think Digne himself would've push for a transfer anyways. His fallout came right after Brands was sacked, is not a coincidence.

We got Coleman from Ireland. We didn't do too bad there. And every Ukrainan international I've ever seen play have better technique than their rubber ankled English counterparts.

By that logic, I'm assuming you'd be happy to sell richarlison and Calvert lewin too?

You're clutching at straw there Dave, you've no idea if he is good enough. It just suits your agenda, get Digne out because he has stood up to Benitez. I bet you're having flashbacks to Baines and Brownshoes.

How much did we get for him?

The fee has probably been long agreed.

Hopefully we'll get £30M, but with his last 18 months form taken into consideration I'm fearing it could be nearer £20M.

Let's face it: any LB who wants to actually play for the team is going to be a 100% improvement on one who wont play for the team.
