2021/22 Lucas Digne

He was ill, as were Rondon, Gray and Delph.

If he did refuse to travel and play - Benitez only has himself to blame for cutting his nose off to spite his face.

But I was told he was genuinely ill and given the protocols the club decided to tell them all not to go.
The manager underlined that he was right to leave him out, because we got a fine result at Chelsea without him.

Au revoir Monsieur Fancy Dan.

The manager said he would have played. I think Benitez's plan was to play Digne LWB and Godfrey LCB at Chelsea.

He tried to play politics in the way he said 'Digne said he was ill', but Benitez never claimed - to be fair to him - that Digne said he wasn't available. 'Digne said he was ill, so he is not available' - which makes perfect sense.

Gray, Rondon and Delph all fell ill on Thursday and did not travel with the squad. Which given there are matches being postponed all over the shop is probably a good call.

He tried to give him a last chance which he threw in the manager's face. That's what happened.

Good riddance. £30M for him and we're laughing.

But he was ill...

Gray, Rondon and Delph were also ill.

It might have been a cold, we don't know that. But given the current protocols at the training grounds are you really suggesting Everton would have said to an ill player 'yeah, come down to London on the train with us'

Oh yes, that's right. He told the manager he was ill but wanted to travel anyway.

FFS.
What?

I said he was ill. Benitez said he wasn't available - because he was ill?

Like, that's just a sensible solution?

Whether he goes or not in January is irrelevant. We've got 3 games until then and if he's fit he should be involved.

We also shouldn't be lumping it all on some 22-year-old left-back to come in and replace one of the most effective full-backs in the league over the last few seasons (before we got a manager who plays like it's 2006) straight away in the middle of the season.

Agree with that, but, its only kicking the ball down the road a bit. Neither DCL nor Richarlison will be here in 12months and who can blame them.
I think Richarlison will go in summer. Not sure if anyone will offer enough for DCL and he is under contract until 2025.

Anyway, clubs need to be continuously planning to replace players just in case. Richy would generate a big fee. The question is would it be invested well.

He wouldn;t do what he was asking him to do in a game for the team...leaving him out is not getting a titty lip on. It's called managing a team.

They'll all learn from that now and appreciate they cant take the piss with this manager.

And coming off the pitch against Chelsea that looked like a united playing staff and coaching staff.

Let no one be under any illusion that there's a battle raging anymore at that club: Benitez is firmly in charge of team and transfer affairs.
Rubbish Dave and you know it. Your mate Benitez thrives on turmoil he has rows wherever he goes. As for the reaction post Chelsea, the kids had just got away with a point at Chelsea and were elated. Nothing to do with Benitez, if he'd had a choice they wouldn't even have played

If it wasn't Digne, it'd have been another player he'd have fallen out with.

It was fine when he came in. James was already here and we all knew they had a history. Easy for both parties to just both go their own ways; and the press were on Benitez's/the club's side given James was on £7million a week.

He loves picking fights. He's done it everywhere.

We’ll await your proof on this Dave

lol lol lol

He tells the manager he isn't making himself available for the game at Chelsea and we're supposed to believe he;s willing to travel down there.

As Hunter said in the Guardian: "Digne informed Benitez he was unavailable for Thursday's trip to Chelsea through illness".

Come on, lads.

Trying to win a petty proxy war against the manager like this - it's a pretty poor effort after you lost the actual war to try and unseat Benitez.

Lol.
