2021/22 Lucas Digne

What's the inside story on this?

The way I read the situation is that perhaps:

1. Digne lad thinks he's wasting his career looking at the mess Everton and believes he belongs to a higher level.

2. He does not want to focus on his defensive game as Rafael wants him to.

I don't want any sulker in the team, which included Richy. Moyes would have done the exact same thing Rafael has done.

Selling digne isn't an issue if the lad replacing him is good. Being younger then you would hope he has a better ceiling.

The problem I would have is if we sell for a similar price or loan out to a smaller fee in the summer.

There is nothing wrong in selling our best players and replacing them as long as we make money from them in the process. We aren't in a position to keep international footballers whilst the form isnt there. But the minute we are directly replacing players who are our best and making no profit from it, that's when it's not a good idea.

New lad may be boss in the future but you need that quality now, not in 3 years when it is too late.

It would be similar to selling lewen for 30 million and signing 18 year old lewen for the same price , he may go on to score loads for us but not straight away, so we lose the goals.

Selling digne loses the experience at fullback. Plus I can't see past the notion that it's benitez management that may be detriment to his form rather than the lad suddenly being average.

This works in theory. But we are getting rid of our only left back and replacing him with another (lesser in my opinion, but with room to improve) left back with the money we get for Digne.

Lets face it though, none of this is the reason anyway. He is being sold as he has fell out with the manager. It's not some boss plan to improve our finances or anything like that.
Well it’s not quite the same money and you obviously know buying and selling works differently on the books. Also will be on half the wages at least if
He is an international player himself. He would probably be on a bit less but people are acting like he will be coming here to play for buttons or something.

I'm not against selling anyway, its probably a model we need to look at really, its the disingenuous comments about the manager playing a blinder etc when in reality he is being sold because he has fell out with the player and nothing else.
well we will never know the truth, but wasn’t there a rumour about him wanting to leave 8 weeks ago. Also Digne comes out of this bad to. What ever his differences are with the manager, refusing to play is disgraceful

I agree with you 100%
Didn’t the manager also say he wanted players that wanted to play for the club and that Digne needed to put the club first? I like Digne as a player but very disappointed in him if he did refuse to play.
Makes you wonder if he’s causing issues within the club though

The thing is mate we'll probably never know who is the one being out of order here, Benitez or Digne.

I'd be surprised if Chelsea were in for the rat.

They want FBs on the score sheet as well as doing a defensive job...neither of which he has in him.

He'd be ideally suited to West Ham getting crosses in for their grocks.

Last decent cross I can remember from his was to Coleman at Anfield last season.

He’s just massively regressed. All this posturing would suit him far more if he was actually the world class left back he thinks he is. He’s so far away from his 18/19 form that Godfrey playing out of position offers more in defence and attack just by virtue of passing it to another team mate.

I don't want him gone, but if we can get £30m+ for him, which we definitely should, it'll go a hell of a long way. We could probably afford to buy another 2 players after that, a RB and perhaps a CM.

Good thing about Lucas is he will want to get in that France squad and will be, along with his agent searching for a move himself, and will im sure give his new club everything, so even though he has ground to a halt at Everton i think he should still have decent stock, and we should get a good fee an all move on.

Standard "she was a slag anyway" for when you ex leaves and you want a reason to feel better about it

The Everton way
