2021/22 Lucas Digne

Selling digne isn't an issue if the lad replacing him is good. Being younger then you would hope he has a better ceiling.

The problem I would have is if we sell for a similar price or loan out to a smaller fee in the summer.

There is nothing wrong in selling our best players and replacing them as long as we make money from them in the process. We aren't in a position to keep international footballers whilst the form isnt there. But the minute we are directly replacing players who are our best and making no profit from it, that's when it's not a good idea.

New lad may be boss in the future but you need that quality now, not in 3 years when it is too late.

It would be similar to selling lewen for 30 million and signing 18 year old lewen for the same price , he may go on to score loads for us but not straight away, so we lose the goals.

Selling digne loses the experience at fullback. Plus I can't see past the notion that it's benitez management that may be detriment to his form rather than the lad suddenly being average.
some good points, however Digne has become a bit of a weakness at left back recently to the extent that I don't mind whether it's him or Godfrey in there. In such a light, the step down is not great, and whilst we may not be making any money, we are getting six more years, and someone who is less likely to give the manager grief.

Last decent cross I can remember from his was to Coleman at Anfield last season.

He’s just massively regressed. All this posturing would suit him far more if he was actually the world class left back he thinks he is. He’s so far away from his 18/19 form that Godfrey playing out of position offers more in defence and attack just by virtue of passing it to another team mate.
He's got some pin point passes in him, but I've never felt he was a defender we could rely on - which for me is the primary thing I look for in a LB. Yes, you want them providing an attacking outlet, but not at the expense of losing shape...and that was all Benitez was telling him.

But he just wanted to continue with having no responsibility to keep shape and defend. Only one winner there.

Yeah one winner, which one though, the one who will probably play in a world cup next year or the one who will probably be unemployed sitting on his hoop munching on a pizza.

He can do what he wants for France if he gets a game. But he doesn't want to play here anymore so he's about as useful as a chocolate fireguard and we need the cash to spend on players who do want to play.

Benitez is 100% correct to get this feller out ASAP if he can.

Well it’s not quite the same money and you obviously know buying and selling works differently on the books. Also will be on half the wages at least if

well we will never know the truth, but wasn’t there a rumour about him wanting to leave 8 weeks ago. Also Digne comes out of this bad to. What ever his differences are with the manager, refusing to play is disgraceful
Did he refuse to play though? He has never once showed any lack of professionalism before this in his career.

It could be that he actually was just ill.

I have no real issues with selling him really, everybody has a price and all that, I am just sick of yet another player seemingly leaving under a bit of a cloud.

He doesn't though as seen against Palace and against Chelsea when they hammered the left back.

Problem with Godfrey is...he can't defend either. Just runs really fast.

Or we can stop blaming the individual players and look at what Benitez is actually setting the defence up like, because it's not working for anyone.

And throwing this new lad in to replace Digne and expecting our defensive problems to suddenly evaporat is ridiculous.

As with the rest of the squad that didn't go to Chelsea....

But cos Rafael singled him out...

Do folks know that he wasn’t in Frances 2018 WC winners squad?

Neither here nor there re: the question on the table but his period of peak performance and high visibility had been relatively short.

He’s not been great for France either recently.

Benitez loves confrontation, he loves causing trouble and winning his internal I'll show who's the boss here! It's one of his traits, he's clever at it in a sly way. Pity he doesn't put that mentality

Well he might have been ill on Thursday but not too bad because he was in on Friday for training!!

That's exactly what we want: someone to come in here and shake the place up.

It's a stale club with a playing, coaching and managerial staff comfy in their mediocre worlds.

Time for those worlds to come crashing down.

No Dave, we want someone to come in and win football matches. Anyway Dave, I'm out of here till after the holidays, will be spending time with my grandkids and my family, something that was denied to us all last year. Just like to wish you and everyone on GOT (even the ones who shouldn't be) a very happy Christmas and New year! Same to toffees everywhere.

Maybe we are trying read too much between the lines , seeking for issues were they don’t exist , I don’t believe in any of this gossips about him and Ukrainian left back , maybe ?
