Was obvious he wasnt getting on the pitch and only in the squad in a forlorn attempt to not have his value further nosedive.

Surprised hes not been sold already.
i wouldnt be surprised if we hear something soon. Alan Myers seemed to suggest last week something would happen soon on Patterson & Digne. Also with Mykolenko in & Patterson who can play left back & the clear statement of yesterday something is cooking behind the scenes.

You knew he wasn’t getting on yesterday when he got the reaction he did when he was sent to warm up, jaffamans ego wouldn’t allow it, backfired on him that the fans side with digne
The criticism has been that Digne is a better wing back than a full back - not defensively minded enough. Yesterday, we needed a wing back to get down the line.

But, he decides that Coleman and then Holgate - two right backs - are better options to swing the ball into the box. As you say, his ego wouldn't allow it though.

Whats it got to do with ego?

Digne gets injured and we lose the funds to rebuild.

Yes he’ll be loaned out within the next month

The press interview with Benitez made it fairly clear that there were no offers for a permanent transfers for him

It's everything to do with ego. Yes, there's the 'we can't afford him to be injured', but in the here he has a responsibility to manage the team and get results.

In any profession, you have to balance accountability and risk and for most level headed people there's a greater risk from a sustained run of poor results.

There's a greater risk to the club, and his tenure, starting with five defenders at home against Brighton, with Coleman at LB and Mason Holgate still in the team.

Let alone Benitez, the club couldn't afford another poor performance last night, but that's what we've got. We can't say Digne would be the silver bullet...

... but it'd be reduced risk and a better chance of producing a result. Look at how he continued to play Rondon and you start to see a pattern emerging.

Digne should have played yesterday as it was an acceptable risk when you consider all the other factors.

I see the magic trick of a player getting better at football the less he plays is out in full force.

Same always happens to whatever centre back isnt playing becomes probably our best centre back

DCL equating to peak Lewondowski

Give Gomes a go

Lucas Digne would not of made a difference to the result

Playing a left back at left back or wing back wouldn’t have influenced the result ? You’re absolutely certain on that ? So all the times we got space on the left and Coleman inched forward or had space to swing in a cross but couldn’t because he had to switch feet or look to overlapping Gordon none of that would have given up a slight maybe 5% shift ?

Not to the extent people are pinning tge reason we lost down to Digne not playing.
Hes been involved in all our other terrible losses in the last 2 years so what would change here?

So by that measure so has Pickford therefore what we play branthwaite in goal next week ? Makes no difference right ?

Im not saying we lost because we played Coleman on the left but to consider it irrelevant seems odd .

Playing a left sided player as left wing back could definitely have helped
