2021/22 Lucas Digne

Benitez said Digne is our player and needs to fight to get in the team like everyone else. Its obvious Digne has had an attitude problem for the last two years or so. Maybe his wife wants to go back to France to bring up their child? Tuchel dropped Lukaku for less. Managers have got to be seen to manage. There is too much player control these days.

People aren't quite grasping that we have literally no bargaining power because of how the situation has played out.

Had Digne played yesterday, if there was even a plan for him to feature throughout Jan, while Mykolenko gets up to speed (he hasn't played in over a month as it is and he's going to need time to settle into the PL) then we'd have a bit more bargaining power at least; Digne would be playing, not sat around on the bench or at home twidling his thumbs.

Instead we've got a manager who is genuinely thick, stuck in 2006 and is the most egotistical, arrogant coach they have ever employed, and that's saying something.

At least he knows a good detour when the traffic gets bad in Liverpool, though.

Exactly the bizarre @hktoffee shouts of 30m to City are an example of the levels of delusion

You've made that up, Steve. There has been no 'obvious attitude problem' at all. He was a key player under Ancelotti and Silva and both managers liked him. Dunc had him as one of our key players when he had temporary charge.

Can you link me up to the interview digne gave saying he’s not happy with the playing style , regrets his move and wants to go back to his previous team before moving to one of the really big clubs .

There are moral stances you can take.

And then there is reality.

For example 6 points in 36 is reality.

Making a stand on a player may make you feel a bit better about yourself but if it just demoralizes the squad further then what’s the point ?

Well I mean if none of this had happened, if we were just saying you know what, he's for sale but we're not desperate and he's still playing, if Benitez hadn't publicly made a rod for the club's back by being an egomaniac, then £30m would be the minimum you'd expect.
Not sure even on that count

Look at our total inability to recoup on any players in recent years.

Clubs won’t touch us full stop because we are seen as a refuge for damaged goods.

You’ve touched on the fact that perception counts for a hell of a lot.

he's a good player in the prime of his career on a new contract, regular for France, one of the best attacking full-backs in Europe.

Starting price, when you've got no actual *need* to sell, is £30m

Ok so what realistically do you think we will get under the present circumstances ? A loan?

I think in the present circumstances yes the 'best case' option is loan with obligation to buy for £20-25m.

But I think right now there's a very real danger we get pinned back to just being a loan with an option to buy, so there's no guaranteed fee, and it'll be to Chelsea or Inter
