Don’t want to point out the obvious that this is hardly PSG and City in a bidding wars for him is it? It’s not even Arsenal and Spurs.

Why are Aston Villa seemingly the club most interested in a so called world class left back at our asking price?

I’ll give my take: poor attitude, can’t defend, slow, attacking delivery has been declining for a while, injury prone.

Probably why he’s looking likely to end up at Aston Villa.

Same time we had about 10 other players ‘crying’ off sick

Behave.

He was in training, to be included in the squad against Chelsea - cried off 'ill' for a game the next day.

Bad call from him, we probably wouldn't have risked him playing anyway/potential injury when we need to sell him but Digne cried off.

Could just be Villa are the ones who will pay what we want

Probably why he ended up at Everton after Paris SG, Roma (loan), and Barcelona.

Genuinely brilliant early days - particularly his first season.

Very poor 12/18 months - pretty terrible since renewing his contract.

Coleman being so bad at right back has taken the focus off him too.

Devil’s advocate a bit but if we had signed Coutinho on loan and were moving on to sign a left back who is turning 29 soon also on massive wages we’d be saying that the club hadn’t learned any lessons. Villa are doing exactly what we all want Everton to stop doing.
The difference is that Digne has been playing regularly in this league and so the risk is considerably lower than buying a player who has barely played in a completely different league. I agree that we should focus on younger players but there does have to be the odd senior Pro in the squad as well.
