2021/22 Lucas Digne

Probably why he ended up at Everton after Paris SG, Roma (loan), and Barcelona.

Genuinely brilliant early days - particularly his first season.

Very poor 12/18 months - pretty terrible since renewing his contract.

Coleman being so bad at right back has taken the focus off him too.

Yes, was great when he joined, was a real step up in terms of tenacity and pace from A slowing Baines with a similar level of quality.

I’m not sure if he picked up an injury somewhere or if it’s an attitude thing but he’s never really been the same player since. A few flashes under Ancelotti’s first 6 months and that’s been it really.

Inconsistent like a lot of recent players.

It could be anything that though.

He made himself unavailable due to illness.

Full training, then decided he was ill for a game the next day.

We desperately needed players for Chelsea - he cried off.

Lucas Digne’s return to the Everton fold has been put on hold after he informed Rafael Benítez he was unavailable for Thursday’s trip to Chelsea through illness.

The France international was dropped for Everton’s past two games but had been in line to start for the injury-hit team at Stamford Bridge. However, having trained on Tuesday, Digne declared himself unavailable 24 hours later.

“Lucas Digne is a good player, he was an important player for us and yesterday we did a training session and he was in the 11 starters,” the Everton manager said. “Today, he said he is ill and not available for tomorrow.”

Benítez has previously declined to comment on claims he has fallen out with Everton’s only senior left-back and was similarly reticent when asked whether he believed Digne was ill.

“It is not that I believe or not,” he said.

Surprised he’s going to Villa but the realisation of zero top clubs coming in for him must have set in now. I’m sure he thought he’d be off to Chelsea, Milan etc I can’t imagine a sidewards step to Villa was on the cards.

Let’s have it right, Digne is the man that he’s picked on to stamp his authority.

No other manager has ever had a bad word to say about Digne; within 12 weeks there was a problem between them because he questioned why he was being told to stay back

It’s nothing new from the manager, he’s well known antagonist.

Let’s not forget he tried to it on with Christiano Ronaldo as well

I feel reading this he needed an arm around him and told how important he is to the team , or at least what he needed to hear.

With that you either get a motivated player who's one of our best back on track.

Or you protect the value of the asset incase of a need for sale.

Instead the manager has hit the red button and left us in the worst position possible.

I don’t even think it’s a case of excuses.

Digne has regressed, and he’s been gradually declining for a while now. It’s a good move for us this, and let’s hope Mykolenko pushes on.

£25m is great business for a 29-year old, who’s not been able to keep his form for us, for a while. He may rediscover it at Villa, but £120k for a player who’s been struggling, isn’t savvy for us.
