No it isn't. Id have dropped him a while ago. Obviously isnt just him. But we hardly ever keep a clean sheet because he is another poor defender. We hardly have a decent defender who between them know how to keep clean sheets.
What you hope for in digne is him being on it going forward. But wether we like it or not we have to tighten up at the back. We're norwich and watford levels for goals against.
Technically a good player. If he's up for it. But he is over rated on this forum.
I want Everton to get nasty at the back and start hurting when not keeping clean sheets.
Digne isnt that. But i can level that at most of them.
He has had a poor run of form this year. We shouldn’t be looking to sell the only left-back we have at the club.

Both things can be true, and are true, as it is also true to say the system has not helped get the best out of him and has left him isolated defensively to boot

I would say though in terms of FFP I would happily cash in on either/both Digne & Pickford if it meant having the leg room to bring in 4-5 good players to suit the system.

Probably our two best sellable assets that wouldn't hurt the team.

Mate. Ive never rated him as a defender. Might be old fashioned but i want defenders to defend first. If you have the luxury of a team that is packed with quality that might be different. But we havent.
We havent a clean sheet in us. That has to stop.

Not awful, but he was underperforming imo

You don't need to be the best footballer in the world to show a desire to get out and stop crosses coming into our box

Baines was the same though and even he got rinsed for his defensive duties when he had a rough patch. It was just that him and Pienaar were glorious as a partnership, you let those things go.

Flaws in Digne's game yes, but we won't get a better LB unless our financial focus is solely on a LB.

We've been here before.

How's that Digne's sole fault when the whole back line is in need of replacement?

If you can name a full back now that can defend in the modern game as well as attack, you're going to be in very short supply.

It's either Tony Hibbert-esque full back or you go 3 at the back. No one will want a fullback that's scared to go over the half way line

Kept clean sheets under Carlo....

Digne and Benitez have both said that he’s been told to do a lot more defending this season.

Yes, the balance has to be there but in most games Digne wasn’t crossing the halfway line enough. That can be on the player too, but if you look v Brentford, Coleman was constantly getting forward yet digne was not been used at all
Partly because Townsend seem to gravitate towards the right and Gordon offering more cover for coleman as a consequence. As for Digne he is one of the best at the club but he has been out of sorts for sometime. I’m hoping he watched last night and he is itching to get back in the team. I also think if Gomes was playing and we switched Godfrey to the right back position He would have a greater influence getting forward and we would probably improve defensively giving Godfreys attributes but that’s for the manager to sort out.

Come on fella. Ive just literally replied above and stated on here for i dont know how long. I dont rate any Everton defenders. Id quite happily ship them all out over time.
It isnt just digne. He's just part of a gang of poor defenders.

We camped the midfield on our own box in front of them.
Are you really trying to convince me we have good defenders? Have you looked at the goals against table?

Of course not. But one manager saw the deficiencies and actively amended it, the other is just letting them get on with it

Rafael alienated James and his stubbornness tells me he might do the same with sweet Lucas. We need him out there as much as possible, we can’t get away with playing CB’s at LB all the time

Said it before. Lucas Digné is an above-average defender who is good at going forward and supporting our attack. He had a decent first season but that was it.

@davek, do you think we may end up with another Leighton Baines type player revolt on our hands?

Well we’ve been told by digne that he’s been told to concentrate on defending first, that’s fine btw - I have no issue with it

However when we’ve been playing Rondon up front and Townsend central, that’s a striker who needs quality service into the box to make up for his short comings and our best crosser other than Digne playing a position where he can’t cross from.

A switch to 433 would provide us with the defensive basis for digne to be able to get forward
But it is not the case that Digne does not have this opportunity. Only TAA has more crossers than Digne of rb / lb in PL. He has 1-2 fewer crossers per game than he has usually had in his Everton career. But if we adjust this for ball possession, then there is no change to talk about at all.

I also think you have to accept that Digne / Colemen in many matches will be a little less involved in attacks than e.g. under more ball possession oriented managers like SIlva. This has to do with the game model itself, not formation. Still, this change is not terribly big.

And if you were an opponent, where would you lead the game to Everton? Against Gray and Digne, or Coleman and Gordon / Iwobi?

No. The players are with Benitez.

Digne needs to get back and apologise to the group or he can be sold as far as I'm concerned...and btw Ilm a fan of his.

I like Digné myself (just don't think he's as fabulous as some others believe him to be), but he needs to toe the line with the rest of the squad, this is not the time to go rogue.
