2021/22 Lucas Digne

Divining social media posts is the new kremlinology and tends to result in the same degree of accuracy.

I honestly think he'll be back in the team on Sunday. My bet Monday's exclusion was Benitez trying to play the "we can go on without you" card, I don't think a 28 year-old LB who has been suspect for large parts of this calendar year will have suitors lining up for him in January. So he'd be best placed getting his head down and if it's still not a good working relationship by the end of the season then he can request a move.

Neah Godfrey will play there and Digne will be on the bench is my bet.

Players aren't in ordinary jobs and football clubs can't be an inclusive culture of decision making. There's a strict hierarchy and rightly so.
If you’re talking about final decision, accountability, you’re right, that is and has to be the manager, although that’s not specific to football. That wasn’t what I was talking about though.

More the people management and leadership style underlying getting to that final decision.

People are people, regardless. The psychology of leadership applies in football. You’ve got group management and management of individuals within the group. All manager’s have different styles of people management and leadership.

Rafael appears a high IQ low EQ type - certainly from what former players have mentioned if his approach. Great attention to detail, subject matter expert, poor interpersonal skills, poor soft skills, poor at flexing to individuals…. We’ll see more issues like this one with Digne, that’s for sure, these type of managers tend to have more “people problems” than others.

At the prices you quoted, in the current market Digne is probably the only one we could get a buyer for, the others, I fear we would be lucky to get half of what you estimate.

Because of their wages and in the cases of Gomes and Mina their injury record they would be very difficult to move on.

Probably Holgate and Davies the easiest to get a buyer for in view of age, home grown and lower wages, but, we would get pennies for them. Pickford I take out of the equation because when you look at how bad our back ups are he would have to be replaced immediately, no real gain there either.
Mina is a class defender our best by a mile, id keep personally, but the injuries and length of contract is an issue, but he’s still worth 20mil rumours of Milan being interested.

Kean for 30mil I’m sure that deal has been agreed if juve get champions league football. And Pickford, if some club is serious and comes sniffing around, do you think we’d sell for 20mil lol. Ramsdale just gone for 30mil.

I did say if there were buyers

Benitez wants speed merchants at the back. IIRC, he wasted no time in replacing Carragher at FB with Glen Johnson when he got to Anfield.

It's been interesting that the player he seems to have been most insistent on encouraging since being here is Godfrey. On the other flank he has Coleman, and he probably knows he's popular and the skipper and shouldn't (just yet) look to replace him. And he's a useful ally.

Digne will make perfect sense in some games when we're on the attack with our tails up and when DCL is in the middle to whip perfect crosses into. But when we're under the cosh we need aggression and speedy FBs to put out fires.

Carragher was a centre back Dave and Johnson only signed in 2009, he went through about 10 right backs in between arriving and signing Johnson. Kromkamp and Josemi were highlights. Also he deffo should replace Coleman right now as a matter of urgency.

I have wondered inthe past if the dressing room was a bit cliquey with the ex Barca & south amarican crew. They generally seem to hang together, come out to training together in the vids, but not sure if that was borne of language rather than a billy big spuds attitude.
I now wonder if he’s been a bit of ringleader / loudmouth and Benitez is simply not indulging it.

We do have options. Kean, 30, digne 25. Pickford 40. Mina 20. Then 5/10 for your fringe players. Holgate, davies, Gomes, iwobi.
Rafael won't sell Keane. I can't see him selling Gomes or Holgate either.

We should be able to get -
25-30 mil for Digne.
25-30 mil for Pickford.
15-20 mil for Allan.
15 mil for Mina.
10-15 mil for Davies.
1-5 mil for Kenny.
1-2 mil for Tosun.

If push comes to shove we could get 40-60 mil for DCL too.

Sigurdsson, Tosun, Delph, Kenny, Begovic, Lonergan are all available for free in the summer.

Thought the same, and had Finnan and Arbeloa at times also

Well, from what I and others have seen from this group of players over time the very last thing they need is a manager with high emotional intelligence who'll molly coddle them even more.

5 million for Kenny? You do know he's out of contract in the summer?

Edit: 15 MILLION FOR DAVIES?

Carragher was playing as FB when Benitez tipped up.
